Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Engagement: Students are able to watch this video in a different language, read closed captions, or just listen
to the content without having to watch the video.
Representation: Optimizes access to tools and assistive tech… can use an iPad, desktop, headphones, and
other things to help the student’s ability to understand content and watch the video
Action and Expression: Students are able to play games, take quizzes, watch other videos related to this topic
and more to learn the content.
Lesson idea implementation:
The project will be introduced with students choosing a branch of government they would like to be a
part of if they could. From this they would create different artifacts, write papers, and other things to share
on their blog site. The students will be able to share what they have learned then comment on their peer’s
work via the blog that they have. This will take about one hour each day for students to work then comment
on their peer’s work and after about a week it should be presentable enough to share.
I would like to expand this lesson by asking the students to present their blog to the class. From this they
would have to analyze their own work and expand it by explaining it to the class. From this they can rate one
another and see what they can expand upon more in their learning and understanding.
Importance of technology:
Technology is important for this lesson because without technology the lesson could be done, but only in
something like a notebook.
Without this you would lose the ability for the students to comment and respond to each other’s work.
Inspiration (optional): N/A
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
The students work could be seen by anyone online, so I would have to be very careful to not show their faces
or their voices to protect their privacy.
Some parents or administration might fear that having their work or even their names online could be
dangerous or contradict privacy laws.
Reflective Practice: I feel like this lesson could help a student see what they have learned and from this they
could make a video about their branch of government they chose.
