Technology Integration Form

Skype is software that allows for free video or voice chatting. The integration idea is to use Skype to promote global awareness by having students video call students in other countries to learn about different lifestyles and cultures. This would greatly increase student engagement as they collaborate with an entire new classroom. The idea would enhance the lesson beyond just reading or videos, but similar lessons could still take place without Skype, so it is rated a 2 on the value-added scale.

Give a brief description of the technology/resource.
Skype is software and application that allows for video or voice chatting for free to anywhere that has internet access.

INTEGRATION IDEA - COLLABORATION

How might you integrate this resource in a lesson plan to promote collaboration among students in your classroom, or among
students and others outside of the classroom?
One particular way I would want to use Skype is to promote global awareness. The ease of use and accessibility of Skype make
video calling available to virtually any school on the planet, so my students will be able to see students in other countries and how
they might go about learning content or about different lifestyles.

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION
 Based on the “value-added rating scale” above, how would you rate the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource? I would put Skype at a 2 on the scale.
 Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.
I would have Skype at a 2 on the scale because the ability to communicate with someone in a different culture enhances the
lesson much past just reading or watching a video about them, but there are also other products that allow for this to happen so
without Skype a similar lesson could still take place. Also having this in a classroom could greatly increase engagement as students
will have an entire new classroom to collaborate with and they will be able to learn of different cultures from their peers,
students their own age will talk about what school is like to them which is more interesting to students than their teacher talking
about it.
