6.strut-Tie Model Guide

This document provides details of a strut and tie model analysis of a pile cap. It includes load combinations, node coordinates and loads, and design of reinforcement ties between nodes. The analysis divides the pier base into 4 nodes and converts beam moments into equivalent vertical loads at the nodes. Tie forces between nodes are determined and required steel reinforcement is calculated and specified.

With gf3 Hinged Supports at 1, 2, 3 & 4 (pile centre points at top of piles)
P 9630 Find out the loads at nodes5/6/7/8 as shown in the spreadsheet.
trans 1570 BM about L-L axis Put these Vertical loads at nodes 5, 6, 7 & 8 (nodes at pier base)
longi mom 1820 BM about T-T axis the idea of choosing 4 points at pier base is to convert the BMs to
vertical loads.

divide the pier base area into 4 equal parts and choose their centre points
as nodal points as shown above

Combination 2 From the analysis find out the tie forces : 1-2, 2-4, 3-4 & 1-3.
