Network Diffusion

Network diffusion is the process by which information, behaviors, or viruses spread throughout a complex network. There are several key parameters that determine how quickly and widely something will diffuse, including infectiousness, resistance, network topology, and dissemination strategy. The infectiousness refers to how likely something is to spread to other nodes, resistance is the ability of nodes to resist infection temporarily, topology looks at the network's connectivity and structure, and dissemination strategy examines whether the spread is random or strategic.

Network Diffusion

Definition:

Network diffusion is a process of how information, viruses,

gosips or any other behaviours spread / propagate throughout
a complex network.

Diffusion is also called as propagation.

Primary parameters for diffusion:

1. Infectiousness:

Irrespective of the type of network that something that is

likely to spread over the network in rapid manner.

Eg. How contagious the disease is!

We need to know that a node can infect how many nodes in a

given time interval.

2. Resistance :

It means that capturing how nodes may be affected for a

brief period of time before recovery.

3. Topology :
The network topology may be any type that diffusion may
occur.
a. Degree of connectivity - how the nodes are connected
over the network
b. Average shortest path - to get an idea that how many
edges are conneted inorder to affect the whole system.
c. Degree distribution - how centralized the network is.
There are some centralized hubs in the network.
They determine that how the information spread over
the network uniformly.

4. Dissemination Strategy: (Dissemination means spreading

somthing widely ,especially information )

We need to know that the dissemination is random or

strategic.

Many forms of diffusion can be modelled as random that have

no logic behind them.

Eg. Loss of physical contact of others among the creatures.

Some diffusions are strategic

Eg. Military , they choose the critical node that has a high
degree connectivity to affect the whole network.
