Lesson 10 - Discovering Pi

This document provides a lesson plan for a secondary school math class on discovering Pi. The lesson objectives are for students to be able to distinguish different parts of a circle and discover the relationship between diameter and circumference. Students will participate in warm-up questions, take notes on circle definitions, do a group activity measuring circles to discover Pi, and complete practice questions. Formative assessment will occur during the activity and on teamwork skills. Extensions include further measuring if finished early.

Date March 25/26 2018

Lesson Title Discovering Pi

Grade Level Sec.2

Course Math

Unit Geometry/Circles

Learning Using what I learned in the presentation on the board and the document
Objectives camera, I will be able to correctly distinguish different parts of a circle
(diameter, circumference, arc, etc.)

Through the activity done in a group as well as the notes at the end of the
class, I will be able to discover the relationship between diameter and
circumference.

Assessment The assessment will be formative during this lesson, I will be formatively
assessing the students’ process in the discovering pi activity. The activity
contains measuring as well as algebra which is the unit that the students
have just finished.

I will also be formatively be assessing the students’ ability to work as a

team to accomplish the given task during the discovering pi activity

Extensions If students finish the pi activity early, they can keep measuring different
items since there are a lot of different items to measure.

If students finish the pages in the package early, they can move on to the
other pages.

Additional 02 group: Students to stay after class for being late last class; Jeremy S.,
Notes Bobby, Shun-Anthony, Fay, Austin, Audrey & Caleb.

03 group: no additional notes.
