Reflection Paper Assignment

This class has helped me learn how to be an effective and responsible citizen of the Internet.

Looking at the course objectives in the syllabus, I believe I have met most, if not all, of the

points. Notably, this class has helped me use various software applications, understand

fundamental programming concepts using block coding, and approach computer-based tasks

easily with confidence. Prior to taking the class, I already had a lot of experience with

technology because I was born and raised in the twenty-first century with two parents who have

jobs that require a great understanding of computer systems. In high school, we used Google

Classroom for all our classes, so I already had a very good understanding of Google-based

applications. This class, however, made me become more familiar with the Microsoft Office

Suite, among other applications.

The subject I found to be most interesting in class was coding. Although my father is a computer

programmer, I was never exposed to the concept in a way I found interesting. However, I found

the block-coding tasks we did for class to be fun and it sparked my interest enough to make an

account with Codecademy outside of class so I could learn more. Since the class did the coding

activities in, I have found little time in my schedule to learn more, but I have finished a few

lessons on Codecademy. I am planning on continuing my lessons in the summer when I have

more time to work on them. Another tip I learned in this class that I found to be helpful was how

to change the default font properties in Microsoft Word. Before the class, I would have to change

the font and font size every time I opened the application, but now I have the default settings to

be Time New Roman size 12. Lastly, this class introduced me to Adobe Photoshop. I had been

exposed to what Photoshop could do, but I never had the chance to use it. I think the unit on

Photoshop was my favorite because it has so many uses and you can create so many things.

This class has prepared me for my future endeavors by helping me be more confident with my

computer skills and has allowed me to face new technology problems more easily. My dream

career is to be a museum curator or to write about history, both of which require a lot of research

and analysis. EDT 180 has prepared me for this in that I can now utilize Word, PowerPoint, and

the Internet to my advantage. I can now write papers in Word with ease and use the Internet

safely and wisely. I already knew how to use all of these applications, but this class improved my

understanding of how they worked and how to use them efficiently. As for facing new problems,

I think this class helped me be able to confidently face problems head-on by teaching me

shortcuts and bettering my overall understanding of how a computer works.
