Analysis of Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL)” as part of my course requirement.
I am very excited to work on this report as it will give me the opportunity to have a detailed
knowledge of operation of a large scale pharmaceutical company. It will also provide me with
the scope of applying the gathered knowledge in the practical field.

Introduction
Pharmaceutical is the core of Bangladesh‘s healthcare sector and serves as one of the most
important manufacturing industry. With a history since 1950s, Bangladesh is the only least
developed country around the globe that meets up to 97% of its demand for pharmaceutical
products, with a market size of nearly Tk. 200 billion.
Essential Drugs Company Limited is a state owned pharmaceutical company based in Dhaka,
Bangladesh. Founded in 1962, it functions under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare,
with the main objective of setting up an advanced pharmaceuticals industry in the country for
the local production of medicines and to supply these products inside the country for public
health and for export.
Methodology:
This study will be mainly based on secondary data collected from several reliable sources. For
secondary data collection, the company’s annual reports, existing files and documents,
statements, brochures, internship reports, manuals and publications will be collected and
analyzed.
An intensive study on the relevant field will also be conducted through browsing internet and
searching in library. Interview of top management of EDCL will be also done to gain further
knowledge on the issue.
