128 Lab 3.2: Layout

Topics/Objectives:

At the end of the session, the students must be able to
• Assign footprints to components in a schematic
• Create a PCB file for a schematic
• Layout the tracks of the PCB

Instructions
1. Modify the schematic that you made from Lab 2.2 to the one shown in the attached
schematic.
2. Run the annotate tool to verify that there are no annotation errors.
3. Enter the footprints of the components. As a starting point, use the footprints shown
below. You may modify the footprints of the resistors and capacitors, but do not
modify the other footprints.
4. Open the layout editor by using tools->update pcb from schematic.
5. Setup the layers. 2 layers, parts on front only.
6. Setup the design rules. Set the track width to 0.5 mm.
7. Draw a 150mm x 150mm square for the board outline on the Edge.Cuts layer. Your
layout must be placed inside this board outline.
8. Use the techniques that you have learned from the last lab activity to layout the board.
9. You will need to add heatsinks for the voltage regulators and FET. Add the heatsink
footprints by going to Place->Footprint and search for
Heatsink:Heatsink_Fischer_SK104-STC-STIC_35x13mm_2xDrill2.5mm. Place the
Voltage regulators and FET as shown in the figure below

10. Run the DRC and resolve any errors.
11. Generate the Gerber files.
