The Structure and Function of The Digestive System

The digestive system is made up of the mouth, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, small intestine, liver, gallbladder, colon, rectum, and anus. Each organ has a specific function, such as the mouth starting digestion through chewing and the stomach breaking down food with acids and enzymes. Together these organs mechanically and chemically break down food into nutrients that can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
