The Kronos™ integrated pulse generator injects calibration signals into the HV cable to calculate the asset’s pulse
propagation retention factor (PPRF).
The PPRF approximates the amplitude of PD at its origin, based on the amplitude of the propagated pulse captured by
the local OLPD sensor remote from the originating event.

Complete HV Network OLPD Monitoring
90-day monitor training period
• HVPD do not provide automated alarms but provide ‘flags’, raised from condition states or
trends for further engineer investigation.
• These ‘flags’ can signal an increase in PD Level or OLPD Activity but can also be caused
as a result of network switching.
• Each ‘flag’ is investigated by HVPD engineers before a decision is made regarding
preventative maintenance interventions.
• The example below illustrates a total lead time to failure of 195 days for a paper insulated
cable.

Service Contract
HVPD’s OLPD Benchmarking and Monitoring Service Contract
• Uniquely in the market, HVPD provide a dedicated, continuous OLPD condition monitoring
service in conjunction with the monitoring technology and database, to provide continuous
condition monitoring to support Condition-Based Management (CBM).
• This comprehensive solution has been designed to help operators to plan and conduct preventative
maintenance interventions on the critical assets well in advance of failure by providing an ‘early
warning’ of ‘incipient’ insulation faults across a network.

Recommendations
Standard vs Premium Condition Monitoring Support Contract
1. Comparison and benchmarking of the OLPD activity in the network across the assets to the
HVPD OLPD Measurements Database© which holds data from all types of HV assets derived
from over 20 years’ experience
2. Database user interface with all condition data superimposed onto a bespoke single-line diagram
(SLD) of the network
3. Periodic condition monitoring reports including updating of data to the latest the HVPD OLPD
Measurements Database© (quarterly reporting).
4. Annual software upgrades, including updates in line with the HVPD OLPD Measurements
Database©
7. Emergency technical support from HVPD engineers by phone or email on any identified incidents
