1.Name/Title of The Project

This document provides details of a project to automate student headcount using image processing. The 4 member team aims to reduce time spent on manual headcounts and eliminate interruptions to classes. Using a camera, LED lights, and image processing algorithms, the system can provide headcounts within seconds without disruption. Hardware includes a camera, lights, and computer. Software includes MATLAB, PHP, MySQL. The system logs in, captures images, counts students, and stores results; providing an efficient alternative to manual headcounts.

4.Statement about the problem

Head count of student is also an important survey related to attendance in schools and colleges.
By applying image processing technology we made this survey fully automated.
5.Motivation to the particular topic

● Main moto of this project to have real time head count of student present in class room .
● Model reduces much of time that usually taken in manual process.
● The secondary aim of the model to avoid the interruption/distraction occurs for head
count during classes.

6. Objective and scope of the project.

The objective of image processing is to visually enhance or statistically evaluate some aspect of
an image not readily apparent in its original form. The basic principle of image processing
operations carried out will assist us in greater perception and vision . This objective is carried out
through development and implementation of processing means necessary to operate upon
images.
In existing system Head Count(HC) is usually taken by person(peon) manually onto piece of
paper visiting each class ,which leads to interruption of ongoing class also much time is spent for
simple head count. As proposed model is going to do this head count process fully automated
without any interruption. In existing process if we need head count frequently then its totally
horrible ,much of physical hard work ,many more interruptions which leads to frustration for
lectures ,students and even who is handling that HC work(peon). But in proposed system we can
get Head Count any time by seating in one place within few seconds or a minute.Simple process
in manual HC which usually takes effort, more time, many interruptions can completely
eliminated.
7. Methodology

( Fig.Login Process )
(Fig. Automated Process of Student Head count)
The algorithm is implemented almost entirely in C and utilizes the OpenCV image
processing/computer vision library. The algorithm can be compiled to run either standalone or
as a MEX function that can be called from within the Matlab environment. The final two steps of
the algorithm (thresholding the sampled data and verifying the guide bits) are performed in
Matlab and are not included in the standalone application (but would be trivial to add).
8. Hardware & Software Requirement

➔ Hardware Requirement
Camera
LED light(Red&green)
Transmitter and receiver.
PC minimum 2 GB RAM
Hard Disk 250 MB
Beep sound speaker

➔ Software Requirement
Language: MATLAB
Php
Server: Wamp server
Database: MySQL

9. Advantages and conclusion

● At any time we can get Head count of student within few seconds.
● Efficient usage of peon or helper.
● Time taken to record the Head count is very less compared to manual process.
● Eliminate physical hard work.
● Eliminate interruption during ongoing class.
● Student concentration remain steady.
● Lectures explanation is not interrupted by this model but not in manual process which
leads to frustration mode .
