contains the summary and terms and conditions of your application.

Please note: to complete your application, you MUST pay for your test place, and send all
supporting documents to your test centre by the stated deadline. If you do not do this by the
stated deadline, your application will be cancelled.

Application Instructions
WHAT TYPE OF IELTS SHOULD I TAKE?
You can take either the Academic or General Modules. Choose the Academic module
if you are planning to undertake academic study in a higher education institution.
If you are planning to undertake non-academic training or apply for immigration to
Australia, Canada or New Zealand, we recommend you take the General modules.

You will be tested in listening, reading, writing and speaking whichever module you
decide to take. If you are unsure of which module to take, please ask our Customer
Service Advisers.
HOW MUCH WILL IELTS COST?
Fee (GBP): 160.00 , Equivalent ETB 5744.00 only for November for both the General
and Academic modules. All candidates will be required to pay the equivalent amount
in Ethiopian Birr (ETB) at the given exchange rate.
Kindly communicate British Council cutomer service officers to get the current
Exchange rate .

How do I pay?
We accept payments by a direct bank transfer to our bank account (see the
instructions here) or through cash payment order (CPO) made out to British Council
from any branch of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and make sure to mark the
correct spelling for ‘British Council’.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
Once you completed the online registration process, please bring the following within
five working days.
• Copy of e-mail confirming that you have registered online
• Copy of Bank transfer/Deposit recipt to our bank account make sure to mark the
correct spelling for ‘British Council’.
• A copy and original of your valid passport or national ID used for online
registration
WHEN AND HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY RESULTS?
Your results will be ready thirteen days after the test date and you can collect them
from our centre or you can view your result online from http://ielts-
results.britishcouncil.org you will be given a band score for each of the four papers as
well as an overall band score along with a brief description of your level. The result is
valid for two years. Results will be returned to you as a Test Report Form. There is no
pass or fail mark. Scores are given on a band scale of one to nine (with one being a
non-user and nine being an expert user of the English language).
HOW CAN I PREPARE?
Even if you are confident of your English skills, it is essential that you become familiar
with the IELTS test format. IELTS practice material together with a CD is available
from our office for ETB 500. Upon registering and effecting payment, you will be
provided with an access code that will allow you a 30 hours on-line training material
on road to IELTS website. You can also register to our Super Intensive IELTS course

by paying 2,750 ETB.

Note that it is MANDATORY TO STATE YOUR IELTS REFERENCE NUMBER
which starts with ET001- in the cash deposit slip under the deposited by section
Failing to state IELTS reference numbers in the deposit slip may lead to delays
in registration confirmation.
Your registration shall be cancelled if you fail to complete your payment within
five working days.
Also, note that cash deposits made within 5 working days after registering online
are entitled to be refunded as per the IELTS refund and cancellation policy.
