Digital Assignment For RAC

This document contains 5 questions regarding refrigeration systems and air conditioning: 1. It provides data on a refrigeration system using F12 between temperatures of -18C and 37C, and asks to calculate the plant capacity, required power, and COP. 2. It gives conditions for a simple F12 refrigeration cycle with a 10 ton load, and asks to find the refrigerant flow rate, required power, and COP. 3. It gives pressure and temperature data for a vapor compression cycle, and asks to find the COP and capacity at a refrigerant flow rate of 5 kg/min. 4. 1. A refrigerating machine using F12 as working fluid works between the temperatures -
180C and 370C is 78 kj/kg. The enthalpies of F12 entering the leaving the compressor are
200kj/kg and 238 kj/kg respectively. The rate of circulation of refrigerant is 2 kg/min and
efficiency of compressor is 0.85. Determine:

i. Capacity of the plant in tons if refrigeration

ii. power required to run the plant

iii. COP

2. A simple saturation cycle using F-12 is designed for taking a load of 10 tons. The
refrigerator and ambient temperatures are -00C and 300C respectively. A minimum
temperature difference of 50C is required in evaporator and condenser for heat transfer.
Find i) mass flow rate of refrigerant ii) power required and iii) COP.
3. A vapour compression refrigerator works between the pressure limits of 60 bar and 25
bar. The working fluid is just dry at the end of the compression and there is no under
cooling of the liquid before the expansion valve. Determine:

1. C O P of the cycle and

2. Capacity of the refrigerator if the fluid flow is at the rate of 5

kg/min.

Data:

Pressure (bar) Saturation Temp (K) Enthalpy (kJ/kg) Entropy (kJ/jg.K)

Liquid Vapour Liquid Vapour

60 295 151.96 293.29 0.554 1.0332

25 261 56.32 322.58 0.226 1.2464

4. The atmospheric conditions are 250C DBT and specific humidity of 10 gm/kg of dry air.
Determine the followings:
a. Partial pressure of vapour
b. Relative humidity
c. Dew point temperature
5. An air-conditioned plant to be designed for a small office room for winter conditions.
Outdoor conditions =100C DBT and 80C WBT
Required indoor conditions =200C DBT and 60% RH
Amount of free air circulation =0.3 m3/min/person
Seating capacity of the office =50
The required condition is achieved fist by heating and then adiabatic humidifying. Find
the followings:
a. Heating capacity of the coil in KW and the surface temperature required if the by-
pass factor of the coil is 0.32.
b. The capacity of the humidifier
