1. What Is Cucumber?
2. Is cucumber a toner?
INTRODUCTION
After having a hectic day out in the sun, what ones for skin? Obviously, something
that soothes. Cucumber is all you need. A fruit that contains anti-oxidants, vitamin C and rich in
water content makes it best for your skin. Cucumber helps repair sunburn and frostbite as it
contains vitamin C and caffeic acid. Facial toners may seem like mysterious products, but it is
important for healthy skincare. It helps to remove any last bits of cleanser as well as dead skin
and works to close your pores and balance ph. This article highlights the key chemicals you
should avoid in face toners and how you can make your own or purchase natural facial toners.
The main objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the cucumber as a face
toner for acne.
C. Hypothesis
The created face toner solution from cucumber is effective to be a face toner. It can be
used as a face toner for acne. And there will be no significant difference on the effect of our
product from the commercial face toner solution.
The study focused in making face toner for acne solution, that will benefits for those
girls that have acne using a cucumber as its main ingredient. The cucumber will be the toner to
remove acne, pimples, dark spots and small bumps. Most importantly, the product should be safe
for every individual and will not damage the face. Other than that, the study will not cover topics
beyond the scope of the research.
F. Definition of terms
CHAPTER 2
Using toner (or astringent) as part of regular skin care routine is helpful in removing dirt,
tightening pores, and preparing the skin to be moisturized. Cucumber is well known for its
benefits to the skin, which makes it common ingredients min many topical skin preparation and a
popular choice for preparation for homemade face mask. Cucumber extract can be found in
various skin care product like skin. Moisturizers, anti-aging creams, face and neck cream, lotion,
skin cleansers, eye tonics, after-sun products, hair care product and many others. Such a broad
palette of cucumber- based skin care products exist due to versatile effects of cucumber to the
skin. As already mentioned above, cucumbers are also very popular for making homemade facial
masks. Fresh cucumber slices, juice or puree can be applied directly to the face. The best known
effects of cucumber to the skin are that it refreshes, moisturizes, cools and soothes puffy eyes
and tired skin, but cucumber skin treatment does much more to the skin due to its complex
mixture of vitamins, minerals, and various phytochemicals that are highly beneficial. Applying
cucumber in the form of juice is the most convenient, because it can be used as a leave-on
product. It is also an all-natural alternative to store-bought facial toner because it acts as a
refreshing skin conditioner and moisturizer. Cucumber juice is suitable for all skin types, even
for people with sensitive skin. It moisturizes dry skin, soothes irritated skin, regulates sebum and
shrinks pores on oily skin, and nourishes devitalized skin. Active ingredients contained in
cucumber are for the most part water-soluble, thus most of them will end up in the squeezed
cucumber juice. High water content, combined with low concentrations of various active
compounds, makes cucumber juice mild to the skin. Therefore it is suitable for application as it is
– freshly squeezed and undiluted.
Cucumbers may do more for your skin than for your palate. These cylindrical fruits, a member of
the melon family, have properties that soothe and soften the skin. For an easy do-it-yourself skin
treatment, reach into your refrigerator and pull out a cucumber to make a toner or mask or simply
lay slices over your eyes to look refreshed. Antioxidant Power The older you get, the fewer
antioxidants you have in your skin to combat wrinkles and sun damage -- cucumbers can help
restore some of these. Your skin has the ability to absorb antioxidants. Cucumbers are a source
of several compounds that fight inflammation and aging, including cucurbitaceous and
cumbering. Vitamin Rich Cucumbers contain vitamin C, an antioxidant. They also have plenty of
vitamin K, also an antioxidant, which fights dark circles under the eyes. This is why a couple of
cucumber slices placed over tired, puffy eyes in the morning makes you look refreshed.
Pantothenic acid, or vitamin B-5, is another compound found in cucumbers that helps your skin
retains moisture. The vitamin A, or retinol, in cucumbers fights dark spots and freckles because it
helps control your skin's production of melanin. Wrinkle Fighter Cucumbers are a source of
silica, which, as a precursor to collagen, can help fight wrinkles. A May 2011 issue of the
"Archives of Dermatological Research" published a study concluding that the presence of
ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, makes cucumber juice a particular effective ingredient in anti-
wrinkle products. You can add cucumber juice to your favorite lotion or make a toner by grating
a cucumber, straining out the juice through cheesecloth and mixing it with an equal amount of
witch hazel or rose water. Use a cotton ball to apply it to your face. Skin Irritations Cucumbers
have high water content and a cooling quality, making them appropriate to help soothe mild
burns, particularly sunburn. They can also reduce swelling and relieve minor skin irritations,
Among egg white masks and brown-sugar scrubs, the cucumber takes its time-tested place
among natural home remedies for facial skin care. In addition to plenty of word-of-mouth
recommendations and anecdotal tips, hard facts support this veggie's place in the skin care
pantheon -- you need only take a look at the chemical composition of cucumbers to understand
exactly what types of benefits the cucumber offers in terms of all-natural skin care. Cooling
Composition
In an article for Sharecare.com, “Feed Your Skin, Starve Your Wrinkles” author Allison Tannis
breaks down the most basic skin-friendly components of cucumbers. In addition to its hydrating
water content, which lends the skin moisture and reduces puffiness, the vegetable packs vitamin
C and caffeic acid, both of which soothe inflamed or irritated skin. If you juice your cokes with
the skin on, silica from the peel helps firm up sagging skin. Melissa Breyer, co-author of
National Geographic's “True Food,” notes that because cucumbers have the same pH as skin,
they help maintain the it’s protective acid mantle -- the thin acidic film on your skin that wards
off impurities. A Closer Look at Cucumbers In 2013, a study published in “Fitoterapia,” a
journal dedicated to medicinal plant research, took a closer look at the bioactive compounds that
make cucumber juice beneficial for skin care. The report identifies a variety of compounds that
make cucumber juice “nourishing” for the skin. The authors conclude that these elements lend
cucumber juice a skin-soothing effect that eases irritation, reduces swelling and even alleviates
sunburns. Cucumber also offers antioxidants, which combat skin-damaging free radicals. Taking
Cucumber in While pure cucumber juice makes for a cooling face wash, you can also reap
cucumber's benefits by eating the veggie or drinking cucumber water, made by filling a pitcher
with cold, distilled water and letting the slices of a whole cucumber soak in the water for at least
45 minutes. In either case, the skin of your face or body benefits from the cucumber's vitamin C,
which bolsters your body's collagen and elastin production and its connective-tissue-bolstering
silica. Additionally, cucumber packs plenty of fiber, magnesium and potassium, which help
regulate blood pressure. This in turn reduces puffiness and soothes inflamed skin, both
symptoms of high blood pressure. More Ways to Benefit Face washes and ingestion aren't the
only way to benefit from cucumbers. The age-old trick of placing cooled cucumber slices over
your eyes hydrates the skin and contracts blood vessels to reduce swelling and puffiness. You
can also toss a whole sliced cucumber into your bath to soothe the skin or puree and chill fresh
cucumber to use as a tightening toner. Mixed with ingredients such as avocados, egg whites,
milk and essential oils, pureed cucumber also lends itself to gentle, skin-soothing face masks.
Six Uses for Cucumbers Note: If you haven’t already tried, it’s easy to pickle your cucumbers.
Eye Wash Hot, dry eyes with discharge can be greatly soothed with the application of cucumber
juice. This is the origin of the use of cucumber slices over the eyes at a spa. They act to reduce
the redness in and around the eye.
Sunburn a supreme skin soother after too much sun, the cucumber can be applied in a couple
different ways. Either grinds it up and applies the pulp directly to the skin, or juice your
cucumber and repeatedly dab on with a soft cloth. (If you’re looking for sunscreen, check out our
homemade sunscreen recipe.)
Water Retention Puffiness, bloating, and water retention, regardless of the reason, can be greatly
eased by eating cucumbers or drinking cucumber juice. The seeds have always been the focus for
this use of the cucumber, so don’t go looking for the seedless varieties. Summer Lung
Congestion Cucumber is cool energetically. It is actually one of the more obvious and easy to
conceptualize when we talk about food having energy. We tend to feel cooler just having eaten a
cucumber. This vegetable has been used for congestion in the lungs, but it tends to be best for
“hot” congestion such as summer allergies.
Fever As I said, cucumber is cooling. It can be very effective as a compress or poultice on the
forehead or as a tonic that is taken internally to bring down a fever.
Cucumber for Acne, Rashes, Red Skin Perhaps my favorite way to use cucumber is on my face!
I use cucumber juice all summer long as a toner in my skincare routine. I make this toner for my
herbal skincare classes throughout the summer and there are always oohs and aaahs. The cool
feeling on a hot summer night before bed not only keeps my skin looking great, but also helps
me sleep well.
Made with the finest herbal extracts, our alcohol-free toner gently balances and tones skin.
Infused with Cucumber Extract, this formula is the mildest of our facial toners. Leave skin
feeling soft and elegant with our Cucumber toner for dry skin and sensitive skin.
Gently balances and tones skin with a mild astringent effect, Non-drying formula leaves skin

skin types, particularly dry or sensitive skin.
Toners are a key step in your skincare regimen. In addition to balancing your skin’s pH levels
and absorbing extra oil, it also preps your skin to help absorb other ingredients better. However,
a lot of toners that are available in the market contain large amounts of alcohol which can dry out
your skin and cause it to flake. That’s why the best thing to do is to make homemade face toners,
which comprises of au natural ingredients.
Cucumber is packed with Vitamin C and caffeic acid, which are key in soothing the skin by
reducing puffiness and irritation. Antioxidants in cucumbers diminish clogged pores and help
fade dark circles under eyes, blemishes, and scarring. Vitamin B-5 in cucumbers also help to
retain moisture in the skin, allowing for your skin to feel fresh all day.
Cucumber: there is a very long list of all the cosmetic benefits a cucumber has. It is amazing at
hydrating, rejuvenating, and revitalizing skin while being able to do some deep cleaning work.
Cucumbers are also known to soothe puffy red skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and lighten
dark spots (such as under your eyes).
The flesh of the cucumber is mostly water, but also contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and
caffeic acid, both of which help soothe skin irritations and reduce swelling–these acids prevent
water retention, which may explain why cucumbers applied topically are often helpful for
swollen eyes, burns and dermatitis.
The cucumber is a member of the Cucurbitaceae family, along with squash and different kinds of
melon. Cucumbers are high in water and low in calories, fat, cholesterol, and sodium.
They have a mild, refreshing taste and a high water content. They can be refreshing and pleasant
to eat in hot weather and help prevent dehydration. It is eaten savory, but it is strictly a fruit.
Cucumbers have been grown in India for food and medicinal purposes since ancient times, and
they have long been part of the Mediterranean diet. Depending on the type, cucumber can be
sliced in a salad or eaten whole as a snack or to clean the palate after a meal. They can be
consumed with or without the skin. Cucumber also features in a number of beauty products.
This article looks at the nutritional content of cucumber, its possible health benefits, tips for
eating or using cucumber, and any potential health risks.
Fast facts about cucumber. Cucumbers consist mainly of water. Some people use cucumber to
soothe sunburn. Early research shows that a compound found in cucumbers might help fight
cancer. Cucumbers contain lignin, which may help fight cardiovascular disease.
