INT. SCENE ONE (OPENING) - LIVING ROOM - 20:45
LOW ANGLE, PAN
TOWARDS TOM:
Tom is watching cartoons in his grandmothers living room,
it is a cluttered environment with plants, portraits and
knick-knacks arranged at seemingly random heights around
the edges of the room, there is a large open fireplace with
wooden mantelpiece on the far north wall, the pit is cold.
A large mirror hangs above it making the room look much
deeper than it really is, picture frames decorate the walls
around it intermingled with commemorative plates filling
almost every space, a clock hangs near the back of the room
quietly ticking.
OVER SHOULDER (BLUR
FOCUS TRANSITION):
His grandmother is sitting quietly knitting in her armchair
watching cartoons from a distance, the boy turns around to
look at his grandmother, she catches his gaze and instantly
knows what it means, she exaggerates an eye roll
FULL SHOT:
Towards the clock which reads 20:45,
POV (GRANDMOTHER):
She looks back to Tom.
CLOSE UP
(GRANDMOTHER):
Grandmother: "Go on then"
She says with kindness in her voice.
OVER SHOULDER (TOM)
STATIC,:
Tom jumps up and gives his Grandmother a hug, with force
enough to very slightly wind her, he takes a sweet from the
small table next to the armchair and returns to watching
cartoons.
INT. SCENE TWO (POWER CUT) - LIVING ROOM - 21:00
LOW ANGLE, CLOSE UP
(TOM):
Tom is still watching cartoons,

CLOSE UP CLOCK:
The clock reads 21:00,
OVER SHOULDER:
In the TV set the reflection of the room shows the
Grandmother stand up and drop her knitting quietly enough
not to tear away Toms' attention from the TV. She walks
into the hallway connected to the back of the room, a
doorway hides that corner of the room due to it opening out
into the space the wrong way.
LONG SHOT, ALTER
FOCAL LENGTH DOWN
HALLWAY FROM LIVING
ROOM:
Down the hallway the Grandmother stops adjacent with the
bathroom, she enters.
CLOSE UP (TOM):
The boy is watching TV still, enjoyment painted across his
expression,
OVER SHOULDER:
Suddenly the lights go out and the house is plunged into
darkness. He is startled and turns quickly to see the room
is a place of shadows, twisted perspectives and sinister
shapes.
POV (TOM):
His expression
CLOSE UP, TILT UP
(TOM):
Turns into a cavity of dread as he cranes his head up to
see the ceiling and furniture leaning menacingly over him
as if it were watching his every move.
LONG SHOT, FROM
ACROSS ROOM:
Tom: "Nan?"
POV (TOM):
He calls but she doesn't reply.
LONG SHOT, ALTER
FOCAL LENGTH DOWN

HALLWAY FROM LIVING
ROOM:
Down the hallway his grandmother is stood motionless in the
darkness facing towards the living room, she begins to
silently walk towards the doorway.
MID SHOT PAN
TOWARDS DOOR:
Tom stands up and edges towards the doorway,
CLOSE UP (TOM),
STATIC CAM:
His expression is one of fear and anxiety.
POV (TOM):
He slowly peers around the corner bracing himself for the
horrors conjured up out of the darkness by his mind. He can
see the hallway is empty and dark, his grandmother isn't
present in the space.
LONG SHOT, ALTERED
FOCAL LENGTH, FROM
HALLWAY DOWN TO
LIVING ROOM:
He edges into the hallway.
INT. SCENE THREE (COAT STAND)- HALLWAY
The bathroom door slowly creaks open a few inches ahead of
him, he peers into the darkness to see but it is
impenetrable.
DOOR KNOB IN PLACE
OF CAMERA:
Tom reaches for the doorknob and very slowly pushes it
open,
POV (TOM):
Ambient light from the hallway allows for a faint glimpse
into the space revealing it to be devoid of his
Grandmother.
CLOSE UP (BATH TAP
DRIP):
He can here the dripping bath tap irregularly splashing
against the ceramic tub.

POV (TOM):
The stairs opposite the bathroom suddenly begin to creak as
if someone is walking up them towards Tom,
CLOSE UP (TOM):
If it was day he would instantly be able to see down the
steps but in this instance it is too dark and cannot make
out a figure.
LONG SHOT DOWN
STAIRS, ALTERED
FOCAL LENGTH:
He edges back against the wall instinctively out of fear.
CLOSE UP (TOM):
He waits for what feels like an eternity, the footsteps
suddenly stop and nothing appears to happen.
FULL SHOT (FOCUS
FOREGROUND):
Tom edges towards the top of the stairs to peer down them,
behind him a figure silently creeps out of a door just past
the bathroom,
FULL SHOT (FOCUS
BACKGROUND):
The door loudly creaks and startles Tom, it softly closes
as he looks towards it, he can see a looming shadow behind
the coat rack ahead of him, Tom stares, his mind working to
understand its shape.
CLOSE UP (TOM) END
OF HALL UNFOCUSED:
His Grandmother crawls down out of the ceiling corner of
the hallway behind him and silently enters the living room.
FULL SHOT, TILT UP:
Tom takes a step towards the coat rack,
EXTREME CLOSE UP
(EYES):
Suddenly two eyes open and gaze into his, he is about to
scream.
CLOSE UP (TOM):
Grandmother: "I'm in here"

FULL SHOT, LIVING
ROOM DOOR:
She sings from the living room, Tom turns back,
EXTREME CLOSE UP
(TOM - EYES):
The shadow is missing.
INT. SCENE FOUR (LIVING ROOM RETURN) - LIVING ROOM
LONG SHOT, ALTERED
FOCAL LENGTH:
Tom turns to look towards the living room, the door is far
off.
LOW, TWO SHOT:
The Grandmother is behind the door, her features are
steeped in shadow, she is laying in wait for Tom to enter
the living room, low to the ground, quite animalistic in
her posture.
POV (TOM):
Tom edges slowly down the corridor towards the doorway,
CLOSE UP FOREGROUND
(GRANDMOTHER) TWO
SHOT:
His Grandmother is getting closer to the door in
anticipation and levelling more to the head height with
Tom.
POV (TOM):
Tom slowly peaks around the corner and witnesses an empty
room, his arc continues right up to behind the door, he
instinctively looks up into the figure looming overhead.
EXTREME CLOSE UP:
His face becomes the very picture of abject horror,
suddenly his eyes burn as the light explodes from the lamps
bulb which he is gazing into, he shields his eyes.
FULL SHOT (TOM):
Behind Tom is standing his Grandmother,
Grandmother: "brushed your
teeth?"

She asks, Tom leaps from his skin at the sudden surprise of
her being there, after a moment he shakes his head to
signify he hadn't.
CLOSE UP (TOM):
Grandmother: "Then off to bed."
She says, without really acknowledging Tom she walks
through the living room and into the kitchen at the other
end.
INT. SCENE FIVE (BRUSHING TEETH) - BATHROOM
FULL SHOT (TOM):
Tom is standing at the sink, looking into his reflection,
he is brushing his teeth, he is surrounded by bits and bobs
belonging to his grandmother, her teeth are sitting in a
glass on the sink as well as a set of old straight razors
and denture brushes.
CLOSE UP MIRROR
ANGLE, FOCUS
BACKGROUND:
From the dark hallway, eyes are watching.
INT. SCENE SIX (NIGHTMARES) - BEDROOM
LONG SHOT TILT UP
STAIRS:
Tom slowly descends the stairs to the basement, the door is
open to a dark room, His Grandmother is standing at the top
of the stairs watching him, her head is blocking the
ceiling light casting a shadow down towards him.
POV (TOM):
Tom slowly peaks in to check the room is lifeless,
FULL SHOT:
He determines that it is and enters and whilst doing so he
turns on the light.
MID SHOT OF
CURTAINS:
Tom walks across the room and closes the curtains on the
darkness outside and climbs into bed.
7.
OVER THE SHOULDER
FOCUS TRANSITION:
He turns to see his Grandmother standing quietly in the
doorway, a moment passes
CLOSE UP (TOM):
Before she turns off the light leaving a silhouette of
herself against the light of the hallway.
POV (TOM):
Grandmother: "Sleep Tight"
She says, the door slams shut on her, plunging the room
into darkness,
CLOSE UP (TOM):
He stiffens in place afraid to move, but nothing happens.
POV (TOM):
Tom turns over, and stares right into the face of the
Monster.
CUT TO BLACK:
End
