QUESTION TWO [20 MARKS].

Imagine a university local area network (LAN):

a. Identify three likely causes of the network connection failure. [6 marks].


b. Advice the on the necessary trouble shooting approaches to establish the cause
and resolve the connection failure problem. [8 marks].
c. How can computer virus be effectively controlled in a network? (6 marks).

QUESTION THREE [20 MARKS]

ICT Management has decided to install N-computing Network technology in one of the
university computer labs. It was anticipated that between 60 to 70 students would use the lab at
any practical session. However, the system faced serious challenges such as vandalism, missing
accessories, hanging up, and network being too slow, while some user ends not able to access the
server.

(a) With the aid of a diagram, explain the concept of N-computing. [7 marks]
(b) As the systems network administrator, advice the university on how to go about ALL the
challenges identified above. [9 marks]
(c) N-computing would be an effective and efficient technology for learning institutions however
it has not been widely adopted. Give any two reasons for the reluctance (4 marks)

(a) What are the four causes of delay in a packet switched network? [4 marks]
(b) Suggest how such delay caused can reduce. [4 marks]
(c) Show functional and administrative differences of Bandwidth-D and PRGT as LAN
management tools (12 marks)

QUESTION FIVE [20 MARKS]


a. Discuss how to configure DHCP client /server network mode assuming that you are using
windows 2008. [12 marks].
b. Briefly state and explain the steps for configuring a user authenticating wi-fi network
access based on a unique user-name and password set per user [8 marks].
