Computer Lab Manual:: Users
USERS:
The computer labs in Reed Lab are available for use to all students in the Program.
Undergraduate students usually use the lab on the 3rd floor in #308 and Graduate
students working on GIS, Remote Sensing or Photogrammetry use the Lab on the 4th
floor in #402.
All other students, who are not Geomatics majors, will be able to use the labs only during
the semester they are enrolled in a class with an SUR prefix.
LOG IN:
Username: Gatorlink ID
Password: Gatorlink Password.
Connect to UFAD.
POLICIES:
1. The computers are for use by all students. Do not over burden the machines by storing
files or downloading programs on local hard drives, this includes your desktop.
2. Files stored on local hard drives may be deleted without warning. This includes the
“Desktop” of the machine.
3. You may store up to 500mb on the file server if you are an undergraduate student and
600mb if you are a graduate student. For instructions on connecting to the file server
click here. Save your files only in your folder (same as your gatorlink ID). Any of your
files found outside of your folder may be deleted without warning.
5. The lab is available to you only when another class is not using it. If there is a class in
the lab, that you are not enrolled in, please allow those students access to the computers.
It would be better if you left the room, since your presence may distract/disturb the
instructor and/or students.
6. DO NOT alter any program files. DO NOT download any new programs.
7. DO NOT eat or drink near the computers. Crumbs, spills and stains are not welcome.
There is a lunch area available for your use in #206.
8. Tobacco use of any kind is not allowed in the labs or elsewhere in the building.
9. DO NOT disturb others working in the lab. DO NOT use language or discuss
private matters that may make others uncomfortable. Please refer to UF’s
discrimination and sexual harassment policies.
10. DO NOT play card games or online video games. Doing so is a violation of UF
computer policy. Your user privileges may be taken away.
11. Online chatting and instant messaging are not allowed, unless it is specifically
required for a class.
12. You may use the printers and plotter only for class related purposes. Your printer use
may be monitored. For instructions to connect to the printer/plotter click here.
13. DO NOT send large print jobs to the printer when others in the lab are also waiting to
print .
Press on “tools” and then on “Map Network Drives”. You will get a dialog box that looks
like this:
If there are any other mapped drives on your computer, you may not have “Z:” as the
name of the drive. It can be X:, Y:, or any other letter except A:, C:, D: and E:
Put the server name in Folder: \\ad.ufl.edu\ifas\SFRC\Private\Geomatics
Press finish.
OR
You can also simply use the shortcut that already exists on the lab computers. It is
called “New Shortcut to File Server”.
All the folders you currently have permission to view will be listed . If you are not a
geomatics undergraduate major and are currently registered for an SUR course, you
will be listed under “Other Students”.
Delete all
