Numerical Pattern Recognition Test

The document describes a 32-item multiple choice test called the Numerical Pattern Recognition Test (NPRT) that evaluates pattern recognition skills through numerical and symbolic problems, providing sample problems and their solutions. It notes the test assesses pattern observation abilities and basic math skills through questions involving numerical sequences without requiring outside knowledge. Sample problems and an answer key are included to demonstrate the test.

Numerical Pattern Recognition Test

NPRT is a multiple choice test consisting of 32 items of numerical or symbolic nature. Although items
look like numerical sequences, they have nothing to do with it. Candidate has to find numbers that
belong to a specific pattern (eg. 1,2,3,4,5,6… or 2,4,6,8) among other irrelevant numbers. For example,
we have the following item : 1235537691114??
That’s what happens here : 1 2 3 5 5 3 7 6 9 1 11 4 ?? We notice that odd numbers exist among other
numbers that don’t follow any pattern. So, ??=13, next odd number. Answer may be the required
number, as in the example above, or a set of irrelevant number containing the required number in its
position.
No specific knowledge needed; only pattern observation skill and primary maths (addition,
subtraction etc., so that one understands relations between numbers).
* Note that this test was formerly used as the numerical part of Multiple Choice Numerical-Spatial
Assessment and was sufficiently normed before being removed. So, as in Sequences Test 2, answers are
given without explanations. Figure it out yourself! Good luck and have fun!
