Learning Outcomes
This course is designed to provide students with an overview of constrained optimization and simulation in a variety of business
applications. At the end of this course the student will be expected to formulate and apply appropriate management science
methodologies to support effective business decision making, using the relevant management science software.

Lab Usage
At the end of this course the student will be expected to formulate and apply appropriate management science methodologies using
the relevant management science software. Classes will be held in a classroom, but there will be couple of designated lab lectures.

Exams
 You will have two mid-term exams and a final exam focusing on the concepts, models, and applications discussed from
lectures and text.
 The exams will consist of problems of method implementation, problem solving and essay-type questions
 Final exam is comprehensive.
 Exams will be closed book and closed notes. Formulas will be provided when necessary.

HW Assignments- Regular Quizzes

 There will be three HW assignments and quizzes.
 Students are expected to complete the homework assignments and submit their papers at the beginning of the lecture that
the assignment is due.
 At the beginning of these lectures, there will be an in-class quiz from a sample of homework questions.
 Students will be graded based on their quiz performances. Submitted papers will not be graded.
 Students will not get any credit from the quiz if they have not solved the related questions on their assignments or they did
not submit their assignments.

Lab Quiz and Solver HW Assignments

 Your performance for using the related software will be graded by Lab Quizzes.
 In addition, you will be assigned hw assignments which will require usage of Excel Solver. Answers to these assignments
should be submitted online, by appropriate name of the file. For instance: “LastName_AssignmentNumber”.
 There will be no make-up for the lab quiz and no late submission of the Solver hw’s will be accepted.

Class Participation
Class attendance is absolutely mandatory as this course is technical in nature and “does not come naturally” by just reading the
textbook. In class, problems will be formulated, analyzed using the appropriate software, and results interpreted for the business case
at hand.
 Class participation could be graded in different forms:
o small homework assignments
o in class assignments (individual or group)
o reading and discussion sessions
o pop quizzes
 Only students who are present in the classroom can take part in these activities and earn the corresponding grade.
Students who are not present for these evaluations will receive a zero- there will be no make-up for such activities.

Classroom Rules
 Talking in class (when the professor is lecturing) is very rude and disrespectful. A late arrival disrupts the class and the
attention of everyone. It is highly encouraged that you arrive on time for the class. However, if there are circumstances that
prevented you from arriving on time, please enter in the least disruptive way possible.
 Cell phones should be turned off or kept in silent mode during the class. A ringing phone on the middle of the class is a disrupting
factor for everyone and you will be asked to leave in such a situation.

1
 Acts conflicting with classroom rules can result in a lower final grade as explained in Class Participation (student should expect
0 class participation grade).

Academic Honesty:
Students are reminded that has a strict set of policies regarding academic honesty, and that such policies shall be enforced. Students
are prohibited from discussing or otherwise communicating any information relating to the content of exams once these exams have
been administered to them, and from obtaining and using this information prior to or during the exam. You will be asked to sign a
sworn statement to this effect before taking the exam.
 Same rules apply for any written assignment in this course.
 Any act that does not follow the academic honesty policies will be punished by an FF grade for the course.
 Immediate action will be taken during the semester (you will not be allowed to take remaining exams).
Make-up Rules
There will be one single and comprehensive make-up examination during the final period and it will be counted towards whichever
exam(s) you are missing. You will be eligible to a make-up examination if:
 You inform the instructor before the exam start time.
 There will be no make up for quizzes, or class participation activities.
