Dynamics System Model

The document contains 4 problems related to liquid-level systems and compressed air systems. Problem 1 derives the transfer function for a two-tank liquid-level system. Problem 2 asks for the change in head over time given changes in flow rate and tank parameters. Problem 3 determines resistance and head change over time given changes to inflow. Problem 4 calculates pressure changes given changes to temperature in a compressed air tank of known volume and initial pressure and temperature.

1. Example 7.4

Consider the liquid-level system shown in Figure 7-8. At steady state, the inflow rate is
Q; = Q, the outflow rate is Qo = (1, and the head is H = H. Assume that the flow is
turbulent.

2. Example 7-5

For the liquid-level system shown in Figure 7-18, the steady-state flow rate through the
tanks is Q and the steady-state heads of tank 1 and tank 2 are H1 and H2, respectively. At
t = 0, the inflow rate is changed from Q to Q + q, where q is small. The corresponding
changes in the heads (h I and h2) and changes in flow rates (qi and q2) are assumed to
be small as well. The capacitances of tank 1 and tank 2 are C1 and C2, respectively. The
resistance of the valve between the tanks is R 1 and that of the outflow valve is R2•
Assuming that q is the input and q2 the output, derive the transfer function for the
system.

3. Problem 7-4

Consider the liquid-level system of Figure 7-17(a). The curve of head versus flow rate
is shown in Figure 7-17(b). Assume that at steady state the liquid flow rate is
4 X 10-4 m3/s and the steady-state head is 1 m. At t = 0, the inflow valve is opened further
and the inflow rate is changed to 4.5 X 10-4 m3/s. Determine the average resistance
R of the outflow valve. Also, determine the change in head as a function of time.
The capacitance C of the tank is 0.02 m2

4. Problem 7-8

Air is compressed into a tank of volume 10 m3• The pressure is 7 X 105 N/m2 gage
and the temperature is 20°C. Fmd the mass of air in the tank. If the temperature of the
compressed air is raised to 40°C, what is the gage pressure of air in the tank in N/m2, in
kgjlcm2, and in Ibt'in.2?

Diketahui : V = 10 m3

p = 7x 105 N/m2

T = 20°C

Ditanya :

P gage in N/m2 , ⁄ , ⁄ if T to 40°C

Rumus :

pv = mRairT

Jawab :

P = 7x105 + 1.0133x105 = 8.0133 x 105 N/m2

T = 273 + 40 = 313 ° K

= 95.29 𝑘𝑔

= 7.547 x 105 N/m2 gage = 7.695 kgf/cm2 gage

=109.4 lbf/in2 gage
