Report On Karai
Students visited the canal by taking overall look of the site having information
of each and every segment of the canal from the site engineer. The canal had its
escape through which the access of water in emergency from the Sabarmati
river can be excluded from the canal.
The canal works and the working of syphon was thoroughly explained by the
site engineer.
The canal had 3 battery with 3 barrel in each battery. This battery helps in
operation and regulation of gates. Each gate of about 6-7 m depth was immersed
in the water.
The site engineer also inform the student about the main narmda and its canal
distributary works. The narmada river is 1312 km long and has its 3 main canal
irrigation system in which the KARAI CROSS REGULATOR is the second
(2/3) headwork with the syphon. The capacity of KARAI PROJECT is 2nd
largest among the 3 canal headworks.
Overall it was a very informatory visit for a civil engineering student to know
about the working of canal cross regulators. All students on about 3 pm left the
site with full knowledge of canal works.
