Spelling of the S​ imple Past Tense​ ​of ​Regular Verbs.

Rule Base Form Past Form


Add –ed to most regular verbs work worked
cook cooked
Ends in “e”, add-d only live lived
use used
Ends in a “consonant + y”, change study studied
“y” to “i” and add -ed apply applied
cry cried
*stay stayed
* play played
Ends in a “vowel + consonant”, stop stopped
double the final consonant and add shop shopped
–ed (except w or x) *fix fixed
*snow snowed

For example:
1. I ​cooked ​my lunch yesterday.
2. He ​applied​ for 2 jobs last month.
3. She ​started​ to work at 7:00 AM.
4. We ​learned​ Social Media last Tuesday and Thursday.
