Lesson Plan Grade 9 - Information and Communication Technology I. Objectives

The lesson plan is for a 9th grade Information and Communication Technology class. It has the objectives of converting binary code to decimal numbers and interpreting the decimal numbers as characters using the ASCII chart. Students will work in groups to arrange binary bits and convert them to decimal numbers and characters. They will learn the steps to convert binary to decimal which involves writing the binary code, assigning an index value to each bit place, multiplying the bit by the index value, adding the products to get the decimal number. Finally, students will complete a table converting sample binary codes to decimal numbers and characters using the ASCII chart.

B. Analysis
What are the steps in converting binary code into decimal number?
1. Write down the binary code horizontally.
2. From the right to left, write the index value of binary code (1, 2, 4, 8, 16,
32, 64, 128).
3. Multiply the binary code and the index value.
4. Add the product of binary code and the index value.
5. The result is the decimal equivalent of the binary code.
Based on the American Standard Code for Information Interchange Conversion
Chart, how do decimal numbers correspond with letters/symbols?
