Application Letter

An application letter, also known as a cover letter, is a formal business letter sent with a job application and resume to a prospective employer. The main difference between a solicited and unsolicited application letter is whether the company has announced an open position or not. A successful application letter is professionally formatted, addressed to the specific hiring manager, explains the applicant's qualifications and relevant experience for the job in 3-4 paragraphs, and includes attachments like a resume and references. It should be no longer than one page.

APPLICATION LETTER

An application letter is merely another name for a cover letter, the official business letter often
included with a job application and/or resume and sent to a prospective employer.

SOLICITED VS UNSOLICITED APPLICATION LETTER

The main difference between a solicited application letter and an unsolicited one is
whether a company receiving the letter announced a job opening or not. If a company
announced an opening, the letter is considered solicited because it was requested.
COMPONENTS OF A SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION LETTER
Professional Style
Application letters are usually, and should always, be in an officer letter style, like block
style. These letters should be formatted properly and checked for spelling and
grammatical errors.
Salutation
Although many application letters open with a simple "Sir or Madam:", the more
successful application letters are addressed personally to the hiring manager (which
often takes some research on the part of the job applicant).
Body
The body of a good application letter, usually 3 to 4 paragraphs, explains why the
applicant is a good fit for the job, explains relevant experience, and shows how that
experience would be useful if selected for the career opportunity.
Attachments
An application letter is rarely sent to a prospective employer alone. It is usually
accompanied by a resume, salary history, list of references, and/or other documentation
of achievements.
Length
Application letters are generally no more than one page in length. Employers are
unimpressed by application letters of half a page or less, though; filling most of one
page is the safest way to complete an application letter.

Principal
St. Matthew’s College
Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya

Ma’am:

Please consider this letter as my intent to apply for a teaching position in your established
institution. I was told by a friend that you are looking for English teachers for the opening of
school year 2018-2019. Given my qualifications, I believe that I am qualified to teach in your
school.

I am Ronaldo Castaneda, 21 years old, single, and of good health. I graduated with honors last
March 2017 from Nueva Vizcaya State University, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya with bachelor’s
degree in Secondary Education major in English and passed the Licensure Examination for
Teachers in September 2017.

To continue to develop myself academically, I started pursuing my graduate degree in November

2017 by enrolling in the Nueva Vizcaya State University Graduate School of Bayombong campus.
My degree of concentration is Master of Arts in Teaching major in English. Though I haven’t had
a teaching experience yet, I believe that I am ready to take the responsibilities of a teacher as I
have already equipped myself with skills and learnings which I have gained through the series of
lectures I attended in the graduate school and in the different seminars and trainings I attended
in the past.

Should I be given the chance to serve in your prestigious institution, I believe I can be of great
help to you by being a campus paper moderator or student organization adviser as I have been
the editor-in-chief of our school publication and at the same time an active member of the English
Club in college. Herewith is a copy of my Transcript of Records, resume, certificates, and other
pertinent documents for your ready reference.

I am very willing to see you in person for an interview. I can be contacted at my cellphone number
09051176453 or via my e-mail address at [email protected].

I anticipate your favorable consideration on this matter.

Very truly yours,

RONALDO CASTANEDA
