Community and School

Huntley High School is a part of Community School District 158. The district encompasses 45 square miles
and serves neighborhoods in the villages of Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Algonquin and the surrounding area.
The community is located 65 miles northwest of Chicago and is in one of the fastest growing counties in
Illinois. Currently, the district has five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school
(completed in 1997). Huntley High School has an enrollment of 3,070 students in grades 9-12 and is accred-
ited by the Illinois State Board of Education. There are 767 students in the senior class. Students choose
from college preparatory and vocational courses. The district also participates in articulated programs at
McHenry County College. Within Huntley High School, there are over 200 certified faculty members. Ap-
proximately 73% of the faculty hold master’s degrees or higher.

Blended Learning
Huntley High School has gained national attention for its implementation of blended learning, a student-
centric learning format that "blends" traditional classroom instruction with online collaboration. HHS' pro-
gram was highlighted by CNN in 2015, and Huntley High School has since become a demonstration site for
area schools, having garnered interest from as far away as Canada. Blended classes allow students the op-
portunity to control their own learning schedule, and by enrolling in blended courses, students are mimick-
ing a college-going culture, as they have the freedom and responsibility to become self-directed learners.
During the 2017-18 school year more than two-thirds of Huntley High School's students, across all grade
levels, were enrolled in at least one blended course.

STEM Academies
Huntley High School offers students extensive experience in STEM fields through our Medical Academy and Engineering Academy.
Students receiving either a Transcript Designation or Certificate of Completion for the Huntley High School Medical Academy or
Engineering Academy have completed a series of coursework as well as extracurricular activities. The coursework includes options
from Project Lead the Way Biomedical or Engineering courses to electives focused on specific medical professions and the engi-
neering field. The extracurricular activities require students to complete a series of job shadows and volunteer hours in the medical
or engineering field. By combining the foundation of medical or engineering knowledge with real world experiences, the STEM
Academies open the doorway to many future career paths for our students.

Curriculum
There are 26 Advanced Placement and 17 honors courses offered in Social Studies, English, Science and Math. Many honors cours-
es either contain the word honors in their title or are denoted with an H. However, some courses are the capstone course in a spe-
cific subject area and are treated like honors courses. These courses are Advanced CAD, Drafting Design Studio, PLTW Principles of
Engineering Design, PLTW Aerospace Engineering, PLTW Civil Engineering and Architecture, PLTW Engineering Design and Develop-
ment, English IV Dual Credit, Dual Credit College Algebra, Multi-Variable Calculus and Linear Algebra, Partnership Youth Residency,
Human Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, PLTW Biomedical Innovation, PLTW Human Body Systems, PLTW Medical Interven-
tions, Chinese IV, and French IV; all receive weighted credit. In addition, a full complement of special education coursework and
services is also available. Please find a copy of the Curriculum Guide that details all courses offered within the school by visiting:
