Chapter 12 Romantic Interlude in Japan 1888

Rizal took a steamer from Hong Kong to Japan in April 1888. Upon arriving in Tokyo, he was visited at his hotel by a son of a Japanese senator. During his first day in Tokyo, Rizal was embarrassed because he did not know the Japanese language. He befriended a Japanese journalist on the ship from Hong Kong. Rizal enjoyed exploring Tokyo's botanical garden, attending performances of Japanese drama, and learning about Japanese art and culture.
