Dynamics Homwork Example

1. The document contains 3 physics problems involving vectors, kinematics, and pulley systems. Problem 1 deals with determining the velocity and acceleration of a point on a rotating shaft. Problem 2 involves calculating the launch angle of a projectile fired from a moving vehicle. Problem 3 is about finding the velocity and acceleration of a cart connected to another cart by a pulley system.

Homework

1. The vertical shaft of the industrial robot rotates at ω = 10 rad/s with α = -2.5 rad/s2.
The lengths h0=50 mm and l0=100 mm are fixed. At the instant represented, length
h of the vertical shaft is 70 mm with the time derivatives of ℎ̇ =10 mm/s and ℎ̈ =5
mm/s2. The values of 𝑙, 𝑙 ̇ and 𝑙 ̈ are 100mm, 12 mm/s and 10 mm/s2 respectively.
Determine the magnitudes of the velocity and acceleration of point P at this instant.

2. As part of an unmanned-autonomous-vehicle (UAV) demonstration, an unmanned

vehicle B launches a projectile A from the position shown while traveling at speed of 30
km /h which is decreasing at the rate of 2 m/s per second. The projectile is launched with a
speed of 70 m /s relative to the vehicle. At what launch angle α should the projectile be
fired to ensure that it strikes a target at C? Compare your answer with that for the cases (a)
when the vehicle is stationary and, (b) when it is traveling at a constant speed.

3. Cart B has a rightward velocity vB=50 mm/s, rightward acceleration aB=25 mm/s2 and
xA=4 m at the instant represented. Determine the velocity and acceleration of cart A.
Neglect the diameters of the pulleys and assume that there is no mechanical interference.
The two pulleys at C are pivoted independently. (h=0.5 m and b=0.65 m).
