183 EEE303SecA Ass02

This document contains an assignment with 5 questions regarding engineering electromagnetics for a course at United International University. The questions involve calculating electric fields from uniformly distributed charges on conducting rings, along axes, on insulating rods, between charged sheets, and inside and outside a uniformly charged spherical shell. Students are asked to evaluate limits of the expressions as certain parameters become much larger or smaller than others.

UNITED INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (UIU)

Dept. Of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE)

Trimester: Fall , Year: 2018
Course: EEE 303 (Sec – A), Title: Engineering Electromagnetics

Assignment 2
Q1. Charge Q is uniformly distributed around a conducting ring of radius with a . Find the
electric field at a point P on the ring axis at a distance x from its center. How will you
evaluate the electric field at the center of the ring?

Q2. Positive charge Q is distributed uniformly along the y-axis between y=-a and y = a.
Find the electric field at point on the x-axis at a distance x from the origin. How will you
evaluate the result if x>>a and a>>x.

Q3. Find the electric field along the axis at a distance a from the end of a straight insulating
rod of length L. Charge + Q is evenly distributed along the rod's length.

Q4. Three very large nonconducting thin sheets respectively carry uniform charge densities
1, 2 and 3 on their surfaces, as shown in Figure If 1= +4.00 C/m2, 2= ‐6.00
C/m2, and 3= +7.00 C/m2, find the electric field at points A, B, and C.

Q5. Find the potential inside and outside a spherical shell of radius R (Fig.) that carries a uniform surface
charge.
