Specialization Is A Means of Making The Most Efficient Use of Employees' Skills and Even Successfully Improving Them Through Repetition

Work specialization involves subdividing tasks into separate jobs to make efficient use of employee skills. While specialization improves efficiency, it can also lead to issues like boredom and high turnover if not managed properly. Departmentalization groups specialized jobs together under common functions like engineering, accounting, or manufacturing. This increases accountability by putting related activities under single managers. The chain of command establishes a clear line of authority from top to bottom in an organization so it is clear who reports to whom based on their position and authority.

work specialization - The degree to which tasks in an organization are subdivided into separate jobs.

Specialization is a means of making the most efficient use of employees’ skills and even successfully
improving them through repetition. Human diseconomies began to surface in the form of boredom,
fatigue, stress, low productivity, poor quality, increased absenteeism, and high turnover, which more
than offset the economic advantages. Ford demonstrated work can be performed more efficiently if
employees are allowed to specialize, and the practice still has applications in many industries. High
work specialization helps McDonald’s make and sell hamburgers and fries efficiently and aids medical
specialists in most health maintenance organizations.

Departmentalization: The basis by which jobs in an organization are grouped together. Once jobs have
been divided through work specialization, they must be grouped, so common tasks can be
coordinated. A manufacturing manager might organize a plant into engineering, accounting,
manufacturing, human resources (HR), and supply chain departments. We can also departmentalize
jobs by the type of product or service the organization produces. The major advantage here is increased
accountability for performance because all activities related to a specific product or service are under
the direction of a single manager.

Chain of Command
The unbroken line of authority that extends from the top of theorganization to the lowest echelon and
clarifies who reports to whom. When it come to discussing the chain of command, it must included the
authority and the unity of command. Authority is the rights inherent in a managerial position to give
orders and to expect the orders to be obeyed.
