Pollution – that’s probably the introduction of harmful materials into the environment.
They can be created by human activity, such as trash or runoff produced by factories. Pollutants
damage the quality of air, water, and land.
Advocates all over the Philippines have worked as one in bringing justice in our changing
climate and environment during the World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI)
Philippine Chapter.
The world has change its course and it is now revolving around the orbit of trade and
industry. The waste it produces can lead to doom if not being taken care of. We are not only
losing the local spirit but also the international spirit.
Air pollution, it is an important element of life for this keeps us alive. The goal is to do
vertical gardening especially in the highly urbanized areas and reducing the use of fossil fuels.
As a human being, there are ways in order to minimize this concern:
Allowing the elder people and bystanders do vertical gardening. This activity of making
plants grow up a wall or out of a wall can motivate and inspire others in doing the same thing no
matter what the size of their backyard is.
Pressing the international community to use alternative sources of energy like solar and
wind. Using renewable sources like geothermal, biomass, solar power, etc. have no undesired
consequences such for example fossil fuels or nuclear energy. These are healthy and are good for
the environment.
Water pollution makes it very important for it quenches our thirst and makes us clean
and fresh. Their goal is to conduct water conservation and proper usage. But in the process, there
are ways on how to minimize this problem:
Integrate the Ocean and Aquatic Resources Literacy in the Curriculum. What better way of
understanding the bodies of water is by studying them alone. It is necessary for ocean sciences to
be taught in schools. Ocean and Aquatic Literacy is a tool that can be used to inform students on
how they might include this in the development of their life.
Land Degradation, people have been destroying mountains through kaingin system. By
preserving the traditional lands, the regulation and use of agricultural lands, and doing the proper
waste management can save this environmental concern.
Intensify population education and Tree-planting to tree-growing. This strategy can save the
environment because in every birthday a person celebrates, he/she needs to plant two trees and
ten trees for every newlywed couples. It can save a lot of natural wildlife and the natural
disasters that may happen.
Producing own organic fertilizers and organic-based pesticides to reduce the use of
synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. The world as we know is changing and so with time, we are
now in the advancement of technology and so everyone especially the farmers are using instant
pesticides and fertilizers. Only few farmers are using the traditional way which is a downfall for
other farmers because they don’t follow anymore the systematic mechanism in farming.
Press the government to enforce the laws to protect the land. Involving the citizens of the
community in voicing out what is in their minds, being active enough and having the courage to
prove what is right. Laws provide safeness to the land but how can we be safe if the people
working and the laws passed are being presented in an opposite way?
Without the proper management, it may lead to “domino effect” which affects the other
concern areas. As a human being, there are ways in order to minimize this problem. The earth
needs an action right now. We are the earth’s inhabitants and we must be taking good care of our
home. Pollution from human activities is changing the Earth's climate. We see the damage that a
disrupted climate can do: on our coasts, our farms, forests, mountains, and cities. Those impacts
will grow more severe unless we start reducing global warming pollution now.
