5 (a) What do you mean by Digital Signature?

Ans: Digital Signature means authentication of an electronic method or


procedure in accordance with the provisions of Section 13 of the IT Act
2000.

It is used to authenticate the identity of the sender of a message or the


signer of a document & also ensures that the original content of the
message or the document that has been sent remains unchanged.

(b) What are the Importance of Digital Signature?

Ans: Following are the importance of a Digital Signature:

 Strengthen Security: Digital Signature helps to keep the


confidential informations secure from countless hackers and
malicious activities.Data encryption and audit trails keep the
signature secure,protecting it from fraud and keeping the
information away from prying eyes and hands that could do a
untold harm.
 Improve Digital Workflow & Save Time: It can sometime take
months from the time a document is requested until it is received.
But filing online with a digital signature can save considerable time
when it comes to processing & organizing important documents.It
can be done at any time via the internet-doing away with long
lines associated with going down to the court to request or submit
documents.
 Increase Storage Space: With electronic documentation,files are
stored in virtual servers connected to the IT networks,which
means there us no need for paper files anymore.It can save
storage space by moving to digital paperwork & signatures which
will ultimately make space for other things and easy access to the
files once they have been moved to a digital format.

(c) Digital Signature with relevance to E-Commerce?

Ans: E-Commerce means buying & selling goods and services across
the internet.

In general form, E-Commerce involves electronic transactions or


communication that takes place between two or more parties.An E-
Commerce transaction may be between a company and its dealer or
the retailer.Regardless of the nature of the transaction, the most
important thing in order to promote the use of E-Commerce, there is a
demand of the major security i.e., secure transactions must take place
among the parties exchanging E-Transactions.A secure transaction
involves both the ability to authenticate and check that the information
that has benn transmitted as part of the transaction has not been
transformed or corrected,as well as the ability to authenticate the
parties among themselves i.e., mutual authentication at the same time.
In order to provide secure transactions for the use in E-Commerce
Digital Signature have been used. A digital signature is generally an
encrypted electronic fingerprint,this encrypted fingerprint is then
attached to a document,the digital signature signs what the owner
issued.This feature of digital signatures enables the conduction of E-
Commerce to occur in a legal manner.The process of generating a digital
signature involves the use of both the document of
certificate,particularly to eachindividual for efficiency and
compatability,along with the signature that constitutes a unique
fingerprint taken of the individual on the document.
