Lesson Plan Triangle Proportionality Theorem Grade 9 Mathematics

This lesson plan aims to teach students the Triangle Proportionality Theorem using puzzles, visual aids, and examples. It will begin with an introductory game to motivate students. Students will then work through an example proof of the theorem on the board. Numerical examples will demonstrate how to use the theorem to solve for unknown side lengths. Finally, students will complete practice problems applying the theorem to different triangle diagrams. The goal is for students to understand and apply the proportional relationships between sides of a triangle intersected by a parallel line.

Lesson Plan

Triangle Proportionality Theorem

Grade 9 Mathematics
I Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the Learners will be able to:

1. state Triangle Proportionality Theorem

2. solve problems involving Triangle Proportionality Theorem
3. appreciate the process in solving problems related to Triangle Proportionality Theorem in real
life situation

II Subject Matter

Topic: Triangle Proportionality Theorem

Textbook: Mathematics Learner’s Material, Pp. 378-379
Materials: Puzzles, Visual Aids, Textbooks.

III Learning Procedure:

A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance

B. Motivation:

Activity 1 Game: “Complete me I am a Triangle”

1. The class will be divided into five (5) groups.

2. Every group will be given five (5) minutes to complete the puzzle.
C. Lesson Proper:

Activity 2: The teacher will post the incomplete proof on the board.

A
Given: DL KM
D 1 L
Prove:
K 2 M 𝐴𝐷 𝐴𝐿
=
𝐴𝐾 𝐴𝑀
Proof:
Statements Reasons
1. DL KM 1.
2. 2. Corresponding angles are congruent
3. DAL KAM 3. _________ Similarity Theorem
4. 4. Definition of Similar Polygon

Analysis:

Let us try with numerical values

Given: DL KM

Prove:
𝐴𝐷 𝐴𝐿

Therefore: 𝐴𝐷 𝐴𝐿
= are proportional
𝐴𝐾 𝐴𝑀
What is the relationship of the lengths of the sides that is intersected by a line segment parallel to
its base?

Abstraction:

Triangle Proportionality Theorem (TPT)

If a line parallel to one side of a triangle intersects the other sides, then it
divides those sides proportionally.

Application: (Activity Notebook)
