    Here are some rules in forming the comparative and
    superlative degrees of adjectives.

    Adjectives with one or two syllable


    form the comparative and superlative
    degrees by adding er and est, respectively

    Positive Comaparative Superlative


    brave braver Bravest
    large larger Largest Pupils will read what is shown on the projector
    wise wiser wisest screen.

    If the positive degree of an adjective ends in –e, the


    comparative degree is form by adding –r, and the
    superlative by adding –st to the positive

    hungry hungrier hungriest Pupils will read what is shown on the projector

    Adjectives with two syllables ending


    in –y, form the comparative and superlative degrees
    by changing -y to –i before adding –er or –est
    respectively.

    If the positive degree of an adjective consist of one


    syllable ending in single consonant preceded by a single
    vowel, the consonant is doubled before er or est is
    added

    the comparative degree by using more/less,
    and the superlative by using most/least
    before the adjective.

    These adjectives are called irregular


    adjectives.

    Irregular adjectives form the comparative and


    superlative degrees by changing the spelling
    of the word or by changing the entire word.
