CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
A seashell or sea shell, also known simply as a shell, is a hard, protective outer layer
created by an animal that lives in the sea. The shell is part of the body of the animal. Empty seashells
are often found washed up on beaches by beachcombers. The shells are empty because the animal
has died and the soft parts have been eaten by another animal or have decomposed.
A seashell is usually the exoskeleton of an invertebrate (an animal without a backbone), and is
typically composed of calcium carbonate or chitin. Most shells that are found on beaches are the
shells of marine mollusks, partly because these shells are usually made of calcium carbonate, and
endure better than shells made of chitin.
Apart from mollusks shell, other shells that can be found on beaches are those
of barnacles, horseshoe crabs and brachiopods. Marine annelid worms in the family serpulidae create
shells which are tubes made of calcium carbonate cemented onto other surfaces. The shells of sea
urchins are called "tests", and the moulted shells of crabs and lobster are exuviae. While most
seashells are external, some cephalopods have internal shells.
Seashells have been used by humans for many different purposes throughout history and pre-history.
However, seashells are not the only kind of shells; in various habitats, there are shells from
freshwater animals such as freshwater mussels and freshwater snails, and shells of land snails.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Shell bracelet is jewelry that is primarily made from seashells, the shells of marine mollusks.
Shell jewelry is a type of shellcraft. One very common form of shell jewelry is bracelet that are
composed of large numbers of beads, where each individual bead is the whole (but often
drilled) shell of a small sea snail. Numerous other varieties of shell jewelry are made,
including necklace and earrings.
As well as sea snail shells, shell jewelry also sometimes uses the shells of clams (bivalves) and tusk
shells (scaphopods). Occasionally shell jewelry is made from the shells of non-marine mollusks such
as the shells of land snails, or the shells of freshwater mollusks. Not all shell jewelry is made from
whole shells; some kinds are made from parts of shells, including the shell layer known as mother of
pearl or nacre, and the "trapdoor" or operculum which is part of some sea snails .Bracelets made
from shells are used for fashion only. Mostly girls wear this kind of bracelet.

REVIEW RELATED LITERATURE

Bracelet made from shell deals with a study of sizes, angles and the uses or function of a shell for us as a
human being. Although the term armlet may be technically similar, it is taken to mean an item that sits on the
upper shoulder: an arm ring. The origin of the term 'bracelet' is from the Greek 'brachile' meaning 'of the arm',
via the Old French 'bracel'. A bracelet is also a small brace or bracer (an arm-guard used by archers).
OBJECTIVES
This project is designed to:
1. Create a a nice output of jewelry specially bracelets using shells .
2. Motivate students to exert more effort in learning the subject and design their own made of bracelet.
3. Enhance one’s ability in making the bracelet and discover the uses of shells.
4. Have fun while learning without complaining.

SIGNIFICANCE
The proponents were optimistic that this project would be significance to the following persons:
STUDENTS – This will develop the skills of the students within a given period of time. It also serves as the
meaningful creation of the students as they discovered the uses of seashells.
TEACHERS- This will help the teachers motivate the students to learn and appreciate the shells in a very
unique and enjoyable ways.

A. MATERIALS AND TOOLS USED

 Shells
 Beads(any colors)
 Nylon
 rings
B. PROCEDURES
1. To make the bracelet you will need to comply the materials needed.

2. MAKING HOLES. At first you will have to gather similar sized of sea shells. Use pencil to mark the
spot for the hole. The shells we had were pretty thin so it didn’t take much time to make holes on the
shells. Place the shells on the wooden board, do not place it on a hard surface. Gently rotate the awl on
the marked spot and apply pressure carefully.

3. PERFECTING THE HOLES. Once the hole is made, turn the shell around. Again use the awl
carefully to enlarge and give the hole a smooth and round shape. While making holes on the shell you
might break some shells but don’t worry . We broke many shells while making holes on them.

4. MAKING THE BRACELET. Attach the jump rings with the shells through the holes.Take the chain
and start attaching the shells with the chain. Keep attaching the shells until it reaches the required length.

5. MEASURING AND ATTACHING CLOSURE. Use rulers to measure if the bracelet has reached to
to the require length. Simply attach closures. You can also attach extra chains if you want to. Use different kind
of shells and beads for variation.

FINDINGS
Among 10 persons (girls)who were selected randomly to wear bracelet made from shells. They found out
that it is very nice to wear this kind of accessory specially it was made from a unique materials. It made us
realized on how beautiful the ocean is .

ANALYSIS OF THE RESULT
Base on the data we gather , the persons appreciated the bracelets which are made from shells . It is a good
feedback hearing their positive comments from them because it means that the bracelet holds interest and
uniqueness . There is no doubt that the bracelet is appealing and can be wearin any type of occasions.
Moreover, the bracelet is effective as skills was discovered. However, the bracelet cannot be said excellent if
uniqueness of shells doesn’t discovered.
CHAPTER IV
CONCLUSIONS
Shells are very hard to get. It need proper attention in order to get on the sea . Bracelet made from shells
shows only the uniqueness and on how creative we are. As we made the bracelet we realized that wasn’t easy to
do this kind of thing . It needs perseverance and patience while doing this kind of accessory. However, we may
found it very hard but yet it still a memorable one. We enjoy a lot while making the bracelet .We never regret of
choosing this topic because we learned many lessons from it.

RECOMMENDATION
In our perception , we recommend that girls should wear this kind of accessory on public places to avoid
snatchers.
