Fishery Arts

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Identify the external parts of a fish and its functions.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Parts of a Fish (External Anatomy)
Reference: Agriculture and Fishery Arts Exploratory 7 & 8, p. 7
Materials: Laptop, projector, cut out pictures
Values Integration: Conservation

III. Learning Activities


A. Preliminaries
B. Motivation
Picture Puzzle (students are formed into groups)
Guided Questions:
What picture have you formed from the puzzle?
Can you name some fishes that you know?

C. Presentation
Unlocking of Difficulties:
1. Excrete – separate and pass as waste
2. Lateral - situated on one side or other of the body or of an organ
3. Propelling - to push/drive forward in a particular direction

Questions:
 How do fish swim? What do they use?
 Do fishes excrete waste?

D. Lesson Proper
EXTERNAL PARTS OF A FISH AND ITS FUNCTION
PARTS FUNCTIONS
Mouth used for swallowing objects, particularly
food
Nostrils used for smelling
Eyes used for seeing
Operculum/Gill Cover covers the gills
Lateral lines lines along the body of the fish used to help
the fish adapt itself to its new environment
Fins used for swimming, balancing and
 Pelvic Fins propelling in water
 Pectoral Fins
 Dorsal Fin (soft & spiny)
 Caudal (Tail) Fins
 Anal Fin

Scales cover the body


Anus (Vent) serves as an excretory organ where the
waste matter from the body passes out.
Caudal Peduncle connect the body and the tail

E. Activity
Group Activity
With the same group, using the picture, label the parts of a fish. Each group must have a reporter to
present their answers in front of the class.
