    Q1 (a) Calculate the Mean, Standard Deviation, and Standard Deviation of the Mean for
    the spot speed distribution using data in Table 1.

    (10 marks)

    (b) The density-speed relationship for a freeway lane was found to be:

    𝑢 = 54.5 − 0.24𝑘

    Determine:
    (i) Speed at capacity.
    (ii) Density at capacity.
    (iii) Maximum flow.
    (iv) Sketch the u-q, q-k and u-k curves for this stream flow equation.

    Q2 (a) What is the meaning of Peak-Hour Factor (PHF)? and calculate PHF for following
    data:

    (b) A four-lane undivided highway is on 2% upgrade route along 1.8-kmwith 3 access


    points per kilometer and has 3.3 m lanes, with 2.0 m shoulder. The peak-hour
    factor is 0.85 and directional peak-hour volume is 2400 vehicles per hour. There
    are 6% truck and 2% buses. The section has 70 km/h posted speed limit.

    (i) Determine the Level of Services (LOS).


    (ii) Suggest how to improve a new LOS.
