Reinforcing Concrete Hollow Blocks Using Ash From Waste Materials

1. The study investigates using ash from waste plastics, rubbers, and textiles to partially replace sand in making concrete hollow blocks. 2. Hollow blocks were produced with different ash-sand ratios and tested, finding blocks with 10% ash had 10% higher compressive strength than normal blocks. 3. The higher strength ash blocks could be more useful for heavy construction, while also reducing waste in the environment.

Abstract
This study investigates the use of waste materials such as plastics, rubbers, and textiles ash as a new
material added in the hollow block to raise its compressive strength. Some units of hollow blocks with ash were
produced by partially replacing the half or more of sand we use in making normal hollow blocks from 8kg of
sand to 6kg, using a vibrating block moulding machine. Normal procedures were done by making these hollow
blocks. The hollow blocks that are produced were tested to determine their density, compressive strength, and
water absorption rate. These hollow blocks were tested individually in the concrete compression machines. The
results indicated that the compressive strength of these hollow blocks that are made are much higher than the
normal hollow blocks that are used in small houses or structures. The compressive strength of these blocks is
surprisingly 10% higher, which surpassed the standard strength of the normal hollow blocks. The compressive
strength of the normal hollow blocks is just up to 300-350 psi. But the “ASH” blocks have a compressive
strength of 400-430 psi. The table shows the different ratios of the mixtures of the materials that are used. The
researchers experimented some mixtures to know which one will give the highest compressibility strength.
These “ASH” blocks are well tested and proven that it can be more useful for other heavy structures that are
used in our industry. The ashes that are used also helped to reduce the wastes in our present environment and
leads to much more effective purpose.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

In this study, researchers would like to know

the mixture of concrete hollow blocks in terms of
the ratio of cement, sand and water in comparison to
the researchers product. It is important to know the
right mixture and amount of the materials that will
be used. IV. DATA ANALYSIS
