How To Interpret DOE Results

1) Check that the final model has passed relevant tests and is ready to make conclusions. 2) Compare the responses over different factor levels to see if they differ significantly, fulfilling a comparative experiment goal. 3) Identify which effects or terms in the final model are significant, fulfilling a screening experiment goal.

How to interpret DOE results

Final model Assume that you have a final model that has passed all the
used to make relevant tests (visual and quantitative) and you are ready to
conclusions make conclusions and decisions. These should be responses
and to the questions or outputs dictated by the original
decisions experimental goals.

Checklist relating DOE conclusions or outputs to

experimental goals or experimental purpose:

A checklist  Do the responses differ significantly over the factor

of how to levels? (comparative experiment goal)
compare  Which are the significant effects or terms in the final
DOE results model? (screening experiment goal)
to the  What is the model for estimating responses?
experimental o Full factorial case (main effects plus
goals significant interactions)
o Fractional factorial case (main effects plus
significant interactions that are not
confounded with other possibly real effects)
o RSM case (allowing for quadratic or possibly
cubic models, if needed)
 What responses are predicted and how can responses
be optimized? (RSM goal)
o Contour plots
o Settings for confirmation runs and prediction
intervals for results
