Performance Task On Quadrilaterals Unit 5 - Chapter 6: Due Date: Tuesday 11/8/09 Points Possible: 50

This document provides instructions for a performance task on classifying and drawing different types of quadrilaterals based on their definitions. Students are asked to define 7 types of quadrilaterals, draw examples of each using accurate measurements and labels, and classify a figure as one of the 7 types based on analyzing its properties. The task aims to test students' understanding of quadrilaterals by having them apply definitions to draw figures meeting specific criteria and identify types based on those criteria.

Performance Task on Quadrilaterals

Unit 5 -- Chapter 6

Due Date: Tuesday 11/8/09 Points Possible: 50

The goal of this project is for you to be able to classify a quadrilateral as a

parallelogram, trapezoid, rectangle, square, rhombus, kite or none of the above based
upon the definitions of each of the figures.

1. Define each of the following 7 quadrilaterals using words.

2. Create the following figures using the exact definitions, making sure ALL of the
required criteria are EXACTLY ACCURATE.

a. A general quadrilateral
b. A parallelogram
c. A rectangle
d. A square
e. A rhombus
f. A trapezoid
g. A kite

3. Please use a STRAIGHT EDGE, and a PROTRATOR.

4. ALL FIGURES MUST OBEY THE RULES OF THEIR DEFINITION.
5. USE A PENCIL. DRAW LIGHTLY AT FIRST. NEATNESS COUNTS!

Each figure should be re-created using the template handed out in class like the
diagram on page 289 in your textbook (don’t use this small version!):

6. Redraw the figure on a separate sheet of paper.

7. Label the angles A, B, C, D
8. Measure the angles and record their measures directly outside the vertices.
9. Measure the sides and record their measures directly outside the sides.
10. Draw the two diagonals AC and BD. Label the point where they intersect E.
11. Measure the length of the two whole diagonals and also from each
vertex to E. Record these measures under the figure.
12. Measure the two angles at each vertex formed by the diagonal. (Remember
the angle additional postulate!) Record each measure. Place these measures
inside each angle.
13. Measure the four angles at vertex E. Record each measure inside each
angle.
14. Label the figure with the correct congruence marks/arcs and parallel marks.

Double check that every step has been completed as given by the definitions.
Neatness is very important. Good Luck!
