CRANE MODEL
TYPE OF CHASSIS
WARNING
Welding or modification of the crane is strictly prohibited unless
permission is obtained in writing from Maintainer Corp. of Iowa Inc. Any
welding performed on the crane must be done by a certified welder.
Cranes are an important part of service truck functionality. The safety of the operator and being
able to handle lifted materials without damage depend on having the crane in good condition. An
effective inspection program helps to insure that the crane is in good working condition before being
used.
OSHA is the governmental entity having regulatory jurisdiction over the type of crane manufactured
by Maintainer and installed on Maintainer service bodies. In the regulations, inspections are classified
into categories of initial inspection and regular inspection. Regular inspections are further classified
into categories of frequent and periodic categories (and a special category for cranes not in regular
use).
Initial inspection must be done before the crane is put in service. Certified inspectors perform
initial inspection on all cranes built and installed by Maintainer Corporation before they leave the
factory.
Frequent inspection ranges from daily to monthly intervals. The components or systems in this
classification include, but are not limited to, control mechanism adjustment and wear, safety devices,
air and hydraulic systems, crane hook, wire rope reeving and electrical apparatus function.
Periodic inspection ranges from monthly to yearly intervals. The additional components or
systems in this classification include, but are not limited to, structural members, fasteners, sheaves,
pins, brakes and clutches, indicator accuracy and power plant (chassis) systems.
The employer (crane owner) is responsible to keep records of the inspections done. The
record should include the date the crane items were inspected, the signature of the person who
inspected the crane items, and the serial number (or other identifying number) for the crane inspected.
This Maintainer Crane Inspection Log is designed as a convenient and precise way of
recording maintenance, inspections, tests and repairs made to your crane as part of the
frequent inspection requirement. Use this log to keep an accurate machine history and as a way to
keep your crane in a safe operating condition. This log should be considered to be a permanent record
associated with the crane and should be transferred to any new owner of the crane. The log should
also be available to any state, federal or local inspectors responsible for enforcing compliance codes
that are applicable to your equipment.
This log provides charts for daily, weekly and monthly inspections, a table for recording lubrication
and maintenance performed on a scheduled or unscheduled basis as well as recording any accidental
crane damage and repairs made due to the damage.
PERIODIC INSPECTION
Complete inspections of the crane shall be performed by a qualified person at intervals no greater
than 12 months or more frequently depending on the crane’s activity, severity of service and
environment. The results of these inspections should also be considered to be a permanent record
associated with the crane and should be transferred to any new owner of the crane. It is
recommended that the crane have an inspection decal attached reflecting the most recent inspection
date.
