I. Introduction

In areas where cattle and carabao abound in livelihood use, their manures is one

of the abundant solid wastes, while trees are critically threatened due to their

uses in industry especially in paper companies. In response, this study intends to

help solve these problems by utilizing animal manure as an alternative source of

paper instead of trees. The total number of cattles and carabaos here in

Zambales is 17,864 with 10,829 cattlesand 7,035 carabaosbase on the data

from the Provincial Veterinary Office of Zambales.

The study was conducted at the Northern Zambales College Inc. and study the

behavior of the potential market is conducted at different school in Masinloc,

Zambales.

Experiments were conducted by preparing set-ups of animal manure. These

were soaked in a liter of water and boiled in one hour. With this, the fibers can be

cut into smaller pieces then proceed to rinsing area where in the fiber is being

separated using a running water and silk screen.

The Sheets were pressed using different materials, one pressed with

hand and the other with rolling pin then dry thru the sunlight. The sheets were

then tested for durability by using 5 peso coins as weight on the paper.

It was concluded that horse manure is a suitable alternative source of paper

aside from trees. Adding an amount of chlorine will produce whiter results and

also dying the fiber can make different variety of paper product. Using hand or

rolling pin as primary equipment’s for flatting does not improve the texture of the

paper but longer hours of boiling process does. Mass production is

recommended to determine the feasibility of the developed products in large

scale production. Commercialization of these products may solve the trees-

threatening problems and even create job.
