To calculate the power rating of a machine, you need to know the voltage and current, which can be found in the user manual, on tags/stickers attached to appliances, or printed on transformers. The voltage is measured in volts and current in amperes. To determine the power rating in watts, multiply the current by the voltage, and the power rating describes the total electrical power required for normal machine operation.

For calculating the power rating of a machine, you should have basic knowledge of two electrical
quantity called Voltage and Current.
How to calculate voltage of a machine?
Voltage can be found in the user manual for the piece of equipment, printed on the transformer for the appliance, or stamped on the information sticker that is attached to the appliance. This quantity will be given in units of ‘volts(V)’.
How to calculate current of a machine?
This quantity will be given in units of ‘amperes’(A). For finding the current of a machine you should do the same as to find the voltage (I mean this quantity will also be given on the tag/sticker of a machine or it will be given in the user manual also).
What is power rating?
Power rating is a quantity that describes the total electrical power required for normal operation of an electric appliance.
How to calculate power rating?
Multiply the value for the current by the value for the voltage to determine the power rating. This quantity will be resolved in units of wattage (watts). You can also convert watts to horsepower by conversion given below:
