Introduction To MC

The document discusses various electrical symbols, components, and devices used in architectural plans and electrical installations. It describes symbols for switches, relays, transducers, detectors, and provides examples of different types of sensors such as speed detectors, thermocouples, light sensors, and piezoelectric sensors. The purpose of electrical symbols is to show the location and type of electrical equipment required at a site.

TRANSDUCER AND DETECTOR

A transducer is a device that converts one form of energy to another.

Usually a transducer converts a signal in one form of energy to a signal
in another.

Types of Transducer:
• Active - convert energy directly from one form to another.

• Passive - produce a change in some passive electrical quantity, such

as capacitance, resistance, or inductance, as a result of stimulation.

• Sensor -is a transducer whose purpose is to sense (i.e. detect) some

characteristic of its environs; it is used to detect a parameter in one
form of energy and report it in another, often an electrical signal.

• Actuator- is a type of motor that is responsible for moving or

controlling a mechanism or system.

• Bidirectional transducers-convert physical phenomena to electrical

signals and also convert electrical signals into physical phenomena.

Piezoelectric Sensor - is a device that uses the piezoelectric

effect, to measure changes in pressure, acceleration,
temperature, strain, or force by converting them to an electrical
charge. The prefix piezo- is Greek for 'press' or 'squeeze'.
