BootLoader And Flashing Custom Rom


Written Tutorial
This Is a Written Tutorial On Unlocking Lumia Bootloader and flashing Custom Rom.

While This is Just a Written Tutorial Of using windows phone internals I am Just Providing Its
Tutorial.
All Work Is Done By HealthCliff,
He Is Owner And Creator Of WindowsPhoneInternals.

Features Of Unlocking BootLoader,

Supported Phones:
Lumia 520, 521, 525, 620, 625, 720, 820, 920, 925, 928, 1020 and 1320 are supported. These
bootloaders can be unlocked.

Requirements,
1.WindowsPhoneInternals -Get It > here.
2.Windows Device Recovery Tool - Get It > here
3.SBL3(Optional But Required) - In attachment
4.Compatible FFU Image For Your Phone.(You Can Get It with Windows Device Recovery
Tool or WDRT.)
5.Drivers(Installed With WDRT).
6.Lumia Emergency Flash Loaders - You will Get It from here.

The Tools And Resources At No. 3,4,6 Differ From Phone to Phone So i WIll Tell You How To
Get This All.

Preparation:

1.Installing Windows Device Recovery tool:


1.1: Download Tool(Link in Requirement Area).
1.2: Install It.
1.3: Wait Until It Download And Install All Required Drivers.

2.Obtaining A FFU Image.


2.1: Connect WindowsPhone To Pc via USB cable(Data Cable).
2.2: Run Windows Device Recovery Tool And Select Your Phone.
2.3: Click On Reinstall/Install Software Button.
2.4: Let It To Download And Flash Your Lumia.(Note: FFU Images Are Greater Than 1 GB, So
Download Can Take Great Time)
2.5: Once Flashing Done Look For FFU File in
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Packages\Products\<Your RM Version>\<ProductName>.ffu\
2.6: Copy And Backup That File To a Safe Place.

3.Engineering SBL3.
3.1: Look For Attachment I Have Provided SBL3 Of all lumia phones in Just a zip!!
3.2: Download And Extract It.
3.3: Look For Your Phone's SBL3 And Backup That file to a safe place.

4.Lumia Emergency Flash Loaders.


4.1: Connect Phone To PC.
4.2: Open WindowsPhone Internals.
4.3: When It Will Detect Your Phone It Will Show Some Information Of Your Phone (Under
General Info Tab)
4.4: Note Its Brand/Model And Product Code As SHown In ScreenShot.
4.5 :Go to http://www.lumiafirmware.com/ and Click on Your Phone Compatible Tab. Like For
me Its Lumia 625 RM-941.
4.6: It will Give you many Codes Select One That is exactly matched with your Product Code
Found with windows phone internal.
4.7: Download Hex/bin File And Backup It.

Real Instructions,Finishing Up

Now its time to unlock your boot loader and Enable root access,
Make Sure You Got All Necessary Files.

1.Unlocking BootLoader.
1.1: Connect WP to PC via Data Cable and Run WindowsPhoneInternals.
1.2: Tap On Manual mode then Switch to Flash Mode.
1.3: Click On Unlock BootLoader And Load All Your Resource(FFU,Hex,etc)
1.4: Click On continue And Wait Till It Unlock Your Bootloader with sbl3 enabled.
1.5: Wait For Success Message And Your Bootloader is Unlocked.

2.Enable Root Access


2.1: Go To Root Acces Tab.
2.2: If You Have Selected sbl3 in Booting Process Then Just Click on Unlock Phone Button in
Enable Root Access directly on phone section.
2.3: Done Now enjoy.

Part 2:Flashing Custom Rom


To Flash custom Rom get one for your phone and follow this procedure but please you need to
unlock bootloader first in order to install custom Rom.

Installing Custom ROM:


1.Go to Flash section of windows phone internals.
2.It will reboot you Wp to Flash Mode and ask you to select Rom just select it
3.Hit the button and allow it to Flash (takes almost 25min).
4.It will reboot and enjoy your custom Rom.

Fixing Bricked lumia

In Case if you bricked your device you can just follow my new post it maybe can help you.

Take steps given in this article to try to solve most bricked lumia device.

Hello all lumia owners ,with the release of windows phone internals there is a great rush to
unlock bootloader and install custom rim.

In previous post I have posted about unlocking bootloader and enabling root access but what if
you have bricked your lumia?

In That case Please read this thread and fix your lumia.
Lumia can be bricked by bad updating phone or disconnection in update or something else it
might also be bricked by flashing custom Rom.

REQUIREMENTS
1.Windows Device Recovery Tool (WDRT)- Get it here
2.FFU image for your phone.(Larger than 1gb)(If you have custom rom then skip ffu image and
jump to method 2) - check here
3.Drivers (Installed with WDRT)

Instruction

Method 1

1.Install WDRT and run it.


2.Dont Connect your phone, just click on I can''t find my device button.
3.Let it to Search for a Device.
4.Connect your device via USB cable.
4.Start Up your lumia by pressing power button.
5.If it is not starting,Struck on logo,or just a boot loop it can be read by WDRT.
6.WDRT will show device with unknown manufacturer, o's version etc.
7.Dont Flash software with it Just close it.
8.Go to http://www.lumiafirmware.com/info and read all instruction and follow it to manual
flash flu file.
9.Wait Until all is done and reply if this fixed your lumia.

Method 2 (Easy)
If you didn bricked your device in flashing or unlocking bootloader then Its better to jump out
method 1 as it is more easy for you.
Or if you have custom rom for your phone and not want to download full original ffu then stay
here.

1. Install Windows device recovery tool.

2. Go to :
For 32bit window.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Care Suite\Windows Device Recovery Tool
For 64bit window.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Care Suite\Windows Device Recovery Tool
Or whatever install folder you selected.

3. Hold shift and right click on your mouse and click open command windows here.
4. Paste thor2 -mode uefiflash -ffufile " " in cmd and click enter.(This will start searching your
phone)
4. Press And Hold Poweroff + Lower Volume Button (Dont release it if your phone turn on
automatically)(Especially in Bootloop).
5. Connect your phone to PC ( of course using USB cable).
6. if it detect Your device it will take you to Flash Screen (Ignore errors as it appear becuase in
ffu location we take " " and its completely normal.)
7. Run Windowsphone internals and now it will detect your phone in flash mode.
8. Now you can Flash Custom rom (if bootloader unlocked) or just flash stock ffu image (dont
need unlocked bootloader.)

Done

I will try to find more and more method to fix brick lumia until then this method is best or just
send device to service center if this didn't fixed.
