Badges! An Overview

4D
A Badge is additional accreditation in an Epic application or integrated area. Badges
add on to certifications and proficiencies without requiring you to return to Epic for

1A
training. Epic will begin offering Badges in August 2015.

39
You can find Badges on Epic’s Course Catalog (training.epic.com/CourseCatalog).
Each Badge is listed as its own course. All Badges have a 3-letter code followed by a 4-

4
digit number (for example, “CLN2210”). A “v” at the end indicates the Badge includes

9A
a virtual course.

-B
Earning a Badge

97
Each Badge’s curriculum includes a combination of virtual classes, self-study material,
independent exercises, and/or assessments. The specific requirements for each Badge

2
-B
are detailed on that Badge’s Roadmap. You can download a Badge’s Roadmap from
its entry in the Course Catalog.

If a Badge includes a virtual class, the upcoming sessions will also appear in its Course
Catalog entry. Register for the virtual class(es) associated with a badge using the
4C

standard registration form.

Some Badges are completely self-study and do not require virtual classes. To pursue

such a Badge, download the course material and follow the instructions.
UI

Independent-study material may be completed at your own time and pace. Use the
iSWTD (and NOT your organization’s internal environments). All of the requirements in a
icU

Badge’s Road Map must be completed in order to earn the Badge.

What costs are associated with pursuing a Badge?
If a Badge includes a live virtual class, normal charges for virtual training apply.

4D
If a Badge does not include a virtual class, there are no charges to complete that
Badge.

1A
Completing Assessments

39
All Badges require passing one or more assessments. Assessments can include projects,

4
exams, unproctored quizzes, or any combination thereof. Each assessment requires a

9A
passing score of 85% or higher. Assessments must be completed individually.

Badges do not have a separate certified vs. proficient status. You must pass each

-B
assessment with a score of 85% or higher in order to achieve a Badge, regardless of

97
whether you are certified or proficient in the prerequisites.

Unproctored quizzes will be available from a specific page on the UserWeb. The

2
-B
Badge’s Roadmap will direct you to this page if required. You will be able to take the
quizzes at any time. You do not require a proctor for a quiz, and can freely use notes,
9E
training companions, and the iSWTD to answer quiz questions.
43

For exams, if you do not achieve a passing score (85% or higher), you may retake it
within the following guidelines:
9-

 If the badge involves a virtual class, the badge follows the rules for certification
21

exams: you must re-attend the virtual class after 3 failed attempts, and
additional limitations apply after 5 failed attempts. See the Epic Training Guide
-B

for details, under the “Limited Number of Exam Attempts” section.

69

 If the badge does NOT involve a virtual class, you may attempt the exam up to 5
times. If you fail the exam 5 times, you will not be allowed additional attempts at
2E

that exam.
57

For projects, if you do not achieve a passing score (85% or higher), you may resubmit
your project within the boundaries of the project submission guidelines.
4C

Maintaining a Badge
D:

Like certifications and proficiencies, Badges might require that you review a New
UI

Version Training (NVT) lesson and complete an NVT quiz. Not all Badges will require NVTs
for each release. Notifications about Badges with impending NVT deadlines will be sent
icU

to your email address on file.

Can I Complete the Curriculum Without Earning a Badge?
Yes! You may complete any of the independent study material associated with a
Badge on your own. A Badge will not be awarded, however, unless all requirements are

4D
met (including prerequisite certifications or proficiencies).

1A
Badge curricula are designed under the assumption that you have the basic
knowledge represented by the prerequisite certifications or proficiencies. If you have

39
not completed the prerequisites, you will likely find references to concepts and
processes that are unfamiliar. When that happens, use the following resources to fill in

4
the gaps:

9A
 E-learning lessons at https://welearning.epic.com

-B
 Training Companions available at https://galaxy.epic.com (search for “training
companion” and the name of the prerequisite application)

97
 Your certified or proficient coworkers
