☞ Before installing NE-UniGATE, read the Installation Manual supplied with the
program files, in the files “ReadMe UniGATE V5.txt” and
“ReadMe UniGATE V5.doc” (available in English and German).
Installation Reqirements
– Installation of the Ethernet Adapter Drive (if the Ethernet interface ist to be used)
– Installation of the TMN-DCP OSI Stack (configuration of the NSAP address of the
terminal is via the stack)
Reqirements on the Craft Terminal LCT (Laptop) or NCT (Desktop PC)

– Operating system:
MicrosoftR WindowsR NT 4.0 with service pack 3 or higher
The installation of NE-UniGATE – a very user-friendly procedure – is carried out using
the file “setup.exe”. The program group “Siemens NE-UniGATE” is automatically
inserted as a program NE-UniGATE in the PC’s “Start” menu.
A link to the file “Unigate.exe” can be used to set up the “NE-UniGATE” program icon on
the PC’s desktop.

With the NCT variant of the NE-UniGATE software, the “Mode Selection” window (see
Fig. 2.4) appears after it is started, asking the user to choose between NCT mode and
LCT mode.
After a mode has been selected, the corresponding main window
(“Siemens NE-UniGATE [NCT]” or “Siemens NE-UniGATE [LCT]”) appears – inactive in
the background – and, briefly, the appropriate NE-UniGATE information window with
program details and an indication of the operating mode selected (see Fig. 2.5).

With the LCT variant of the NE-UniGATE software, the main window
(“Siemens NE-UniGATE [LCT]”) appears – inactive in the background – immediately
after startup and, briefly, the NE-UniGATE information window with program details and
an indication of the operating mode, LCT.
The information window disappears of its own accord after a certain time has elapsed.
An open “Notifications” window appears – inactive in the background within the main
window – and the login window, for input of a user ID (see Fig. 2.6).
The information window can also be opened after NE-UniGATE has completed its
startup, by means of the menu item <Help> <About...> (see Tab. 3.3), and can be
closed again using “Return”.

about setting up additional user IDs, will be found in Chapter 3.3.9. Details on
how to amend a password will be found in Chapter 3.3.10.
If an invalid user ID is entered, the window shown in Fig. 2.7 will appear.
After the correct entry of a user ID, the main window will show the windows or icons for
“Notifications”, “Off-Line Mode” or “Selectable devices via Q-B3 (Ethernet)” as appli-
cable, and “Alarm History” (all determined by the settings retained from the last session),
and briefly also – active in the foreground – the notification window “Reading alarmmap

The open “Off-Line Mode” window shows all the operating applications which are loaded
and are executable for the network elements, in the form of icons, for a selection to be
made (see Fig. 3.2).
NE-UniGATE uses the open “Notifications” window to display messages and notes
relating to the connection setup and network access by the operating terminal to the
network elements (see Fig. 3.2). This is of particular importance in NCT mode.
In on-line mode, when a Q-B3/Q3 connection is selected in NCT mode, instead of the
“Off-Line Mode” icon the window “Selectable devices via Q-B3 (Ethernet)” containing
the “Alarm List” appears and the “Alarm History” and “Notifications” windows/icons
(shown open in Fig. 3.3). A description of the message window will be found in 3.9.
The “Selectable devices via Q-B3 (Ethernet)” window displays the icons for elements
which have already been set active in the operating terminal, including immediately the
“Alarm List”.
⇒ For each NE icon in the “Selectable devices via Q-B3 (Ethernet)” window, the
user can call up an icon menu, with additional details about the network
element concerned, by using the right-hand mouse button to click on the
corresponding icon.
☞ The menu items in the icon menu can also be accessed via the <Symbol> menu
(see Tab. 3.3).
