3.2.5.2 Balance Sheet

The balance sheet provides a snapshot of a business's financial position at a point in time by listing its assets, liabilities, and equity. Assets are things owned by the business and are listed on the left side of the balance sheet, including current assets meant to be used within one year and fixed assets for longer term use. Liabilities are obligations owed, listed on the right side, separating current liabilities due within one year from non-current liabilities due after one year. Equity is calculated by deducting total liabilities from total assets.
