PUTRAJAYA.

1.0 BRIEF DESCRIPTION ON THE SCOPE OF WORKS

Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan had planned to

develop upgrading works at Presint 18 Putrajaya.

The area of the land is granually flat. We proposed the

Platform Level based on the land surveyor data and site
investigation data. All final decision based on the data
required before get the actual platform and piling size. Minor
site clearing is required for the development area.

1.1 EXTERNAL WATER SUPPLY

Water supply for the Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya is under

the jurisdiction of SYABAS Holding Sdn Bhd or (SYABAS). Based
on the design and conforming to the Authority’s requirements
and design procedures, the following conceptual design is
established. The development shall obtain its water supply
from the existing pipeline with the size to be confirmed with
SYABAS.

Based on the Water pressure test result only will be able to

further analysis the water supply system for the development.
The water pressure to be requested from SYABAS during
application for water. However based on the preliminary
analysis for water demand, 150mm dia. of Concrete Lined Mild
Steel (CLMS) and 150mm dia. of HDPE Pipe to be proposed
from the tapping point.

A length of 150mm dia. of Ductile Iron (DI) will be constructed

and 3 nos of Hydrant to be installed.

1
CIVIL

The water supply demand for the development is in the region

of 23,100 Gallons per 1 day storage.
The estimated water demand derivations are as shown in
Table 1 below: -

TOTAL (Gal/day).

Total Water Demand = 23,100 gallon/day

The potable water shall be supplied via water reticulation

pipeline from the elevated water tank. Then from the elevated
water tank, the water supply by gravity to each roof top water
tank of the highest level of the respecting unit.

One third of the total water demand will be stored at suction

tank to make sure there is sufficient pressure to transport
water on the rooftop. The size of suction tank used is 4.43 mm
diameter with 3.07 m height.

Internal water storage will be provided for Domestic Water,

which shall be stored inside the internal water tank proposed
to be located in the rooftop of all building.

2
CIVIL

As such, the internal storage is categorized under internal

plumbing and shall be submitted under M& E services.

2.0 Water Supply

The following Guidelines will be adopted throughout.

a. MWA Design Guidelines
b. SPAN Design Guidelines
c. Water Supply Enactment
d. British Standard 534
e. JKR Standards
The water supply system characteristics shall be designed to
meet the following criteria: -

o Maximum flow velocity “V” shall be not exceeding 0.6

m/sec.

o Peak flow factor for water reticulation shall be 2.5, while its
fire analysis shall be average flow plus fire flow of hydrant
with one (1) draw-off point operating at 1140 lpm.

o Hazen-Williams equation using Hardy Cross analysis is used

for hydraulic calculation and simplified as follows: -

o HL = 10.7Q1.852
 C1.852D4.87
Where,

HL = head loss due to pipe friction, meter/km

Q = Design flow, m3/sec
C = pipe coefficient, 100
D = internal diameter of pipe, meter

3
CIVIL

o minimum pipe gradient shall not be less than 1:500

o Minimum cover to crown of pipe shall be 1.0m and

maximum cover shall be 2.0m. Where these conditions
cannot be met, the pipes shall be surrounded with
minimum thickness of 150mm mass concrete.

o All pipes lay adjacent to or under the roadway shall have a

minimum cover of 1.2m to the crown of pipe.

o Pipe materials shall be mild steel PN16 to BS534 or Ductile

Iron.

o Fire hydrants of double pillar type shall be located

approximately 90m intervals within the reticulation system.
Its location and type shall be as approved by BOMBA

o All valve chambers shall be brick chambers, except for Fire

Hydrant valve chambers.

o Isolating valve shall be located within the system at

suitable locations for maintenance purpose.

o Minimum residual pressure above highest supply level shall

not be less than 7.5m of head of water.

o Thrust blocks for bends and tees shall be designed to

sustain 1.5 x working pressure with excess of 1.5 safety
factors.

o Air valves shall be installed at highest points, points that

constitute changes of direction and slope. For position of

4
CIVIL

long descending/ascending pipeline, the spacing shall be <

100m.

o Scour valve shall be installed at lowest point in pipeline. Its

size shall be one third of pipeline diameter.

o Minimum riser for culvert crossing shall be 300mm.

o Minimum hydraulic gradient in pipeline shall not fall below

than 5.0 m to the crown of the pipeline to avoid air pocket
and column separation.
