Unpleasant Acoustic Issue Faced by UTAR students around their accommodation

‘Impact of noise level on Students’, says Buchari and Nazaruddin (2017, p.2), ‘Noise
is defined as unwanted noise that could give negative effects to a person both physically
(such as hearing loss) and psychologically (such as frustration and nuisance). In modern
cities, noise becomes a global problem which has been examined extensively around the
world.’ For example, Klang Valley. UTAR campus located at Bandar Sungai Long, which is
a part of Klang Valley. Even though we have students staying at different area of
accommodation, but most of them will feel unpleasant to some acoustic or noise emit from
various sources.

This survey question is prepared to investigate sources of unpleasant acoustic that


affect UTAR student’s daily life. The column chart on the figure 5 showed five different
sources that UTAR students think which will affect their daily life. First and foremost, 14
participants out of 30 thinks that noise from the housemates is the major source which had
affected their daily life with the highest voted for rank 1. Next, 19 participants out of 30
thinks that noise from the neighbours is the second major source that affect their daily life.
Subsequently, 11 participants out of 30 voted noise from the vehicles as rank 3 that affect
their daily life. Lastly, 14 UTAR students voted noise from the restaurants are the minor
sources that affecting their daily life.

In conclusion, the most critical source that will affect UTAR student’s daily life is
noise from the housemate while they thinks that noise from the restaurant as the most trivial
source that affect their daily life.
