Brachial Plexus Mnemonics.

Brachial plexus is the most important topic of anatomy, which each one of us
has to remember for medical examination in the 1st year of our MBBS. In this
Brachial Plexus Mnemonics.
post, we will be sharing ​the easiest way to remember the brachial plexus
with mnemonics ​plus some great diagram which will help you to put a good
grip on this topic.Before diving to the ​Brachial Plexus Mnemonics​ let's have
a brief introduction of them.
Brachial Plexus are constituted by the anterior primary rami of the spinal
nerves C5, C6, C7, C8, and to T1, with contribution from the anterior primary
rami of C4 and T2. The origin of the plexus may shift by one segment either
upwards or downward, resulting in a prefixed or postfixed plexus respectively.

● ​In a prefixed plexus, the contribution by C4 is large and that from
T2 is often absent.
● In a postfixed plexus, the contribution by T1 is large. T2 is always
present, C4 is absent, and C5 is reduced in size.

Brachial Plexus Mnemonics.
From proximal to distal, brachial plexus consists of:

R for Roots (C5-T1)

T for Trunks (Upper, Middle and Lower)

D for Divisions (Anterior and Posterior from each of 3 trunks)

C for Cords (Lateral, Posterior and Medial)

B for Branches.

A) Branches of the Roots.


Mnemonic: ​“She looks pretty sexy & rude.”

1) She for Serratus anterior nerve(C5-C7)

2) Looks for Longus colli(C5-C8)

3) Pretty for Phrenic(C4)

4) Sexy for Scaleni muscles (C5-C8)

5) Rude for Rhomboids (C5)

B) Branches of the Trunks.


1) Sub-clavius (C5-C6)

2) Suprascapular (C5-C6)

C) Branches of cords
1) Branches of lateral cord.

Mnemonic: ​“Look miss look.”

a) Look for Lateral pectoral (C5-C7)

b) Miss for Musculocutaneous (C5-C7)

c) Look for Lateral root of median (C5-C7)

2) Branches of medial cord.Mnemonic:​ “M4U” or “Money For You” note:


For is Four(4).

a) Medial Pectoral (C8-T1)

b) Medial cutaneous nerve of arm (C8-T1)

c) Medial cutaneous nerve of forearm (C8-T1)

d) Median root of median (C8-T1)

e) Ulnar (C7-T1)

3) Branches of the posterior cord.

involvement of ulnar nerve here.
